Dorothy's POV
Back at the packhouse, I found myself studying the way my daughter interacted with Percy. Joseph's tension was palpable whenever he looked at them together. My mate had never gotten along with Percy, and I doubted that would change anytime soon. As long as they could maintain civility for Henderson's sake, that would have to be enough.
Unlike Joseph, I had developed a different relationship with Percy over the years. He treated me with a gentleness and respect that he rarely showed others, especially Joseph. I knew it stemmed from gratitude for saving his life years ago, but it had given me glimpses of who he really was beneath that cold exterior. There was compassion hidden deep inside him, along with an almost desperate need to be loved and accepted.
