Damon's POV
"What do you think we'll find when we arrive?" Coco's voice cuts through the steady hum of the engine as we drive toward Deon's abandoned territory.
The two of us have been moving at a careful pace, partly for her healing and partly because of Aaron. I need my son to embrace Coco not as some replacement for his mother, but as the maternal presence he's been missing. I've done what I could alone, but every Alpha understands that he needs his Luna.
During Joseph's execution of Dean, I'd watched Aaron accept Coco's comforting touch. The shock on my boy's face when they dragged Dean out had torn at me, but Joseph's advance warning had helped prepare him. When Coco's maternal instincts kicked in and she offered Aaron support, my chest had swelled with pride. Her acceptance of me as her Alpha meant she could feel my emotions now, and I keep my mind wide open, wanting her to understand every feeling so trust can grow between us.
