Chapter 40 - Chapter 39 : You don't know, Obito?" Rin said suspiciously

When one's perception becomes sharp enough, one can read the flow of chakra and even attempt to copy another ninja's techniques.

Bang!

Steel collided again, the crisp impact ringing through the courtyard.

Raizen diverted the strike with ease, forcing Kakashi back several steps through sheer strength alone.

He'd activated the cells around his wrist with Cloud Hidden Stream

Asuka.

Thanks to the first green attribute, his Lightning Release compatibility had increased by 20%, allowing Raizen to gather more Lightning chakra into his wrist before unleashing Asuka.

Outwardly, that extra lightning translated into explosive speed and overwhelming force.

Kakashi's short sword rang sharply under the pressure...then snapped cleanly in half, the broken tip clattering onto the ground.

"It broke."

Kakashi stood frozen with the broken blade still raised, sweat sliding down his cheek.

Raizen sheathed his katana, noticing the slight bend in its edge—meaning it needed repairs.

"You have acquired the attribute: [Swordsmanship (White)].

[Attribute: Swordsmanship (White)]

[Requirement Achieved: Defeat Kakashi Hatake with swordsmanship.]

[Progress: Completed]

[Effect: When using swordsmanship, chakra consumption is reduced by 10%.]"

The familiar system voice echoed in his mind.

Raizen exhaled softly. At least he had gained something.

The damage to his sword wasn't a total loss....maintenance only cost a little money. Opportunities to gain new attributes were rare.

"Do I need to pay for your sword…?" Raizen asked.

If Kakashi said yes, Raizen would have to pretend he didn't hear him.

"No need," Kakashi replied after sheathing the broken blade. "It was just a training sword."

"Fine."

Raizen couldn't help thinking Kakashi was incredibly wealthy.

With a father like Sakumo Hatake, who completed countless missions, money obviously wasn't a problem.

Kakashi stared at the fragments on the ground, lost in thought.

Seeing this, Raizen stepped closer and gently patted his shoulder.

"Kakashi, do you know why you lost?"

"Because you have the Sharingan. And… this sword was probably worn out and about to break."

"…"

Raizen noted that Kakashi, before his future descent into coldness, already had a sharp tongue.

"No, it's because your mind is in chaos. They say Lord Sumo's sword glowed white when he fought. But your sword… I didn't see any light."

Kakashi's eyes trembled slightly. He didn't respond, merely pressing his emotions down with silence.

"I'm not trying to rub salt in your wounds," Raizen said softly. "I just want you to know it isn't your fault. Don't let gossip control you."

If Kakashi kept sinking, how was Raizen supposed to maintain his trending topics?

He could only hope Kakashi would push himself to grow stronger.

The White Fang Sword Technique still had hidden entries. For now, only one had appeared.....Friendship Through Swords, reducing chakra consumption by 10%.

Raizen was satisfied with it.

Swordsmanship, like taijutsu, varied; some forms needed chakra, others didn't.

But the stronger the technique, the more chakra it demanded.....just like the Eight Gates, which pushed chakra flow past its limits to release superhuman might.

With a 10% reduction, if Raizen needed 10% chakra per swing and others could attack ten times, he could strike an eleventh.

And the entry could be upgraded.....he wondered how powerful it would become at its peak.

"Good luck," Raizen said.

Kakashi didn't reply—only tightened his lips and nodded faintly.

He understood Raizen's words, but the village's attitude toward his father weighed on him heavily.

It made him question whether missions truly mattered more than comrades.

"That's enough for today."

Raizen stepped back, lifting his small katana again.

"Next time we spar, you'd better break my sword too. Then it'll be fair."

Strictly speaking, this wasn't a true victory. Kakashi's sword had simply broken, and his fighting spirit had collapsed.....so he conceded.

When Kakashi entered a daze, the outcome could go either way.

Outside the courtyard, Shizune continued watching them silently, strands of her short black hair brushing her cheek.

"Raizen is that strong…?"

She remembered the first time she followed Tsunade to Raizen's clinic.

Back then, he was just an ordinary boy who knew nothing—lucky enough to awaken the Sharingan.

Now he could already fight Kakashi—and even hold the advantage?

"As expected of the Uchiha clan."

Shizune sighed, mentally excluding one particular habitual loser.

The next day.

News of Hatake Sakumo had swept across the Ninja Academy.

"Are you alright, Kakashi?"

Rin Nohara hurried to him, worried.

"I'm fine."

But Kakashi's deadpan eyes were even duller than usual.....proof he had overheard countless insults aimed at his father.

"Are you really alright…"

Rin's voice wavered.

"What are you talking about?" Obito asked, confused.

If not for the recent special training with Raizen, Rin, and Kakashi...exhausting him every night and ending his habit of sleeping through class...Obito would still be snoring.

"You don't know, Obito?" Rin said suspiciously.
