The Story: In March 1999, 23-year-old sex worker Fan Man-yee was kidnapped by a client, triad member Chan Man-lok, and his accomplices over a debt. She was taken to a nondescript apartment on Granville Road, where she was held captive for a month. What followed was a period of unimaginable, sadistic torture. Her captors beat her with metal pipes, burned her with hot wax and melted plastic, force-fed her feces, and sexually assaulted her. The torture was methodical and prolonged, inflicting traumatic shock. Fan died in the apartment between April 14 and 15. ☠
The Twist: In a final act of grotesque desecration, the killers dismembered her body. Her internal organs were discarded in public trash bins across Hong Kong. Her skull was boiled, stripped of flesh, and then meticulously sewn inside a large Hello Kitty mermaid plush toy in an attempt to hide it. The case was only cracked when a 14-year-old girl involved in the kidnapping, tormented by nightmares of Fan's headless ghost, confessed to a social worker. The three main perpetrators received life sentences, with the judge stating the case exhibited cruelty "never... heard of... in recent years."
