Chapter 87 - Chapter 88

"You refuse to back down? Then what exactly do you think I want you to back down from?"

Lu Yi looked at the girl in front of him—Skye—and was momentarily speechless. She was incredibly pretty, with an excellent figure. As a mixed-race girl, she had inherited the delicate skin of East Asians along with impressive curves.

Was something wrong with her brain?

Did I say anything?

It was worth mentioning that Lu Yi didn't recognize Skye at first—not this Skye, nor the one from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The world was huge, after all, and mixed-race people were becoming more and more common. Who would've thought that this mixed-race girl in front of him would actually be the Skye from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the one with quake powers?

Lu Yi had never been in the habit of using telepathy.

"When did I ever ask you to surrender? And don't try to paint me as the bad guy. In today's little incident, you're the real villain, aren't you? Am I right, little thief?" Lu Yi said calmly.

"What thief? I don't know what you're talking about!"

Even in danger, Skye didn't give up on surviving. She stubbornly denied Lu Yi's accusation.

"You don't know? No, you know perfectly well.""If you don't have the skills, don't take jobs you can't handle. You haven't even awakened your hidden abilities, yet you try to act like you're some expert. Who exactly are you trying to impress?"

A hint of shame flashed across Skye's face, but she still held her ground."I really don't understand what you're talking about. I was just passing by, and you suddenly grabbed me!"

Seeing how determined she was to deny it, Lu Yi couldn't help laughing. So this was what stubbornness looked like.

"I really feel sorry for you," Lu Yi said, rolling his eyes.

"Good, then why don't you put me down?" Skye replied, her eyes flashing with a hint of slyness as she pretended to be calm.

Lu Yi had to face the fact that after today, he had probably used up a lifetime's worth of eye-rolling. Looking at Skye, a mischievous smile suddenly spread across his face.

"What… what are you trying to do?" Skye asked, terrified. That sinister smile made her heart pound. A woman's intuition told her he wasn't planning to let her off easily.

"What am I trying to do? Didn't you ask me to let you go? Fine—I'll let you go."

As soon as Lu Yi finished speaking, he raised a single finger toward her.

Before Skye could even begin to process what he meant, she suddenly felt her body rising as his finger lifted.

"What are you doing?" Skye was on the brink of tears.

She wasn't the future Quake yet—not a powerful S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, not a princess of the Inhumans. Right now, she was just a helpless girl searching for her parents.

Her strength was only a façade; her true nature was fragile.

"If you don't want anything, I'll just put you down," Lu Yi said. Then he added with fake concern, "By the way… you don't have a heart condition, do you?"

"Yes—yes, I do!" Skye grabbed the chance like a drowning person clutching a lifeline.

"That means… you don't."

Tricking Lu Yi wasn't that easy.

Before Skye could react, Lu Yi flicked his finger downward.

The downward motion acted like a command. The force holding Skye suddenly reversed direction, dragging her toward the grassy ground below.

The sudden acceleration made her feel like a meteor falling out of the sky. Blood rushed to her head; her delicate face flushed bright red, and her eyes filled with red veins.

The outfit and hairstyle she had spent half an hour fixing were now a complete mess—a messy beauty, in its own way. If someone had taken a picture of her with a relaxed expression, it might've been artistic.

But she had no time to worry about appearance. The overwhelming sense of falling drowned out everything. Her mind flooded with visions of herself hitting the ground and being torn apart.

Just as she felt she was seconds away from being smashed into pieces, Skye suddenly shouted in desperation, "Wait—I have something to say!"

Lu Yi paused. Skye stopped midair again.

Going from extreme motion to complete stillness, whatever Lu Yi was doing made her feel nothing—not even the earlier rush of blood.

"Say it loudly."

"I'm not an ordinary person!"

"Oh?" Lu Yi raised an eyebrow.

Other than being beautiful and having a good body, he couldn't see anything special about her. She seemed entirely normal.

His doubtful gaze made Skye feel deeply insulted. With forced confidence, she declared:

"I'm a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent!"

"…Huh?"

Lu Yi's eyes widened.

You're claiming to be a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent? Do you even know they're forbidden from revealing their identity during missions? Do you know low-level agents aren't even qualified to know who I am?

Lu Yi had met many strange people, but there was always a stranger. And now someone was pretending to be a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent—right in front of him—boldly admitting it.

"S.H.I.E.L.D. agent? My apologies, then.""So tell me—since you're with S.H.I.E.L.D.—what exactly do you want to discuss?"

He didn't expose her lie. For now, he played along.

"It seems you already know S.H.I.E.L.D. I'm here under orders to investigate this supernatural incident!" Skye said, thinking she had successfully deceived him. She secretly sighed in relief and lifted her chin with forced confidence.
