Chapter 68 - Chapter 69

Thor was one of the princes of Asgard and the first heir to King Odin's throne.

Since birth, he had been highly anticipated, receiving the finest education, destined to become the next king of Asgard.

But this future king of Asgard was exiled to Earth over something that could be seen as either a major incident… or a trivial one, losing all his power in the process.

Ahem. This is not to say that Thor's exile to Earth was pitiful, or that he was some innocent victim.

On the contrary, Thor had become an extremely unstable factor on Earth.

S.H.I.E.L.D. had no choice but to deploy a large number of agents to maintain stability and even commit their own strength to deal with the power struggle between Thor and the trickster god Loki.

Also, America truly was a disaster-prone country. With extraterrestrials already having visited, Hollywood's yearly alien-invasion blockbusters suddenly seemed far more plausible thanks to Thor's arrival. All that remained was for Thor to die at Loki's hands, and everything could spiral out of control.

Think about it: if the crown prince of Asgard suddenly died on Earth, who would be held responsible?

Loki, the mischievous god who killed Thor?

No. Of course not.Even if Loki nominally became king of Asgard, he would never take the blame. Too many people in Asgard respected Thor. Loki would simply shift the blame onto someone else.

And how would he shirk responsibility? Very easily. He would erase all traces, kill every witness, and then openly pin the blame on Earth.

How embarrassing would that be?

S.H.I.E.L.D. was in an extremely awkward position. They knew Thor was a troublemaker, they wanted to study him, but they couldn't. They couldn't even allow Thor to die. He had to stay alive.

Fortunately, Loki didn't seem intent on killing Thor—at least not yet.

All in all, Thor's journey on Earth went rather smoothly. He even got himself a girlfriend. Everything should have continued on the right track.

But when Thor's four friends arrived, everything changed—because they told Thor that Odin was not dead.

Loki didn't want Thor returning to Asgard. He wanted to prove he was stronger, so he stole the Destroyer from his nominal father Odin and sent it to Earth in an attempt to kill Thor.

And thus, the battle began.

The "Destroyer" was a special being created through magic. Though Loki couldn't fully control it or unleash its full power (because it wasn't being directed by Odin himself), the Destroyer was still extremely formidable. The moment it appeared, it unleashed a devastating energy beam. S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who were observing the situation were blasted away, their armor and protective gear vaporized, and vehicles completely destroyed.

Then it marched toward the small town where Thor and his four friends stood, ready to kill them all.

At this critical moment, Thor's friends could no longer hold back. Three of the true friends rushed in to draw the Destroyer's attention while the fourth—Sif, his friend in name and truly in spirit—circled behind it for a decapitation strike.

The plan went smoothly. After paying a small price, the three friends bought Sif enough time to approach the Destroyer. She leapt off a rooftop, arcing perfectly through the air, and drove her blade straight into the Destroyer's head.

Her sword pierced through its helmet!

For a moment, the Destroyer seemed pinned in place.

But it was all in vain. After a brief shutdown, the Destroyer reactivated, transforming front-to-back. Had Sif not been agile enough, she would have been grievously injured in an instant.

With no other option left, Thor stepped forward to sacrifice himself.

Loki struck the now-mortal Thor with the Destroyer, sending him flying dozens of meters, leaving him on the brink of death.

But then Odin's contingency activated. Mjölnir sensed Thor's change of heart and surged with power. It flew to Thor, restoring his divine strength.

Logically, this should have been Thor's shining moment—destroy the Destroyer, defeat Loki, reclaim his rightful throne, and return triumphantly to Asgard.

But at this decisive moment, a red streak of light suddenly approached from afar, breaking the sound barrier—traveling at nearly 25 times the speed of sound—shattering the air and plunging everything into chaos.

A force moving at Mach 25 was something even Thor couldn't ignore. Realizing it was about to collide with him, Thor didn't dare confront it head-on. He didn't even dare get close. He quickly flew out of its path.

Seconds later, Thor understood he had overestimated himself.

The red light wasn't aimed at him at all—but at the Destroyer standing right beside him. It didn't spare Thor a single glance as it slammed headfirst into the gleaming silver automaton.

CLANG!

The metallic impact echoed through the sky. The once-arrogant Destroyer was sent hurtling hundreds of meters away, like a cannonball fired from a siege engine, crashing into the desert outside town.

A massive cloud of dust erupted, enveloping both the Destroyer and the red light, making it impossible to see anything clearly.

"What just happened? Did someone else come down?" Thor asked his closest friends.

The four exchanged looks. After a moment, Sif spoke. "It wasn't us. There are only four of us here."

"Then who is he?"

Thor had never imagined that Earth would host such a powerful being. He had been on Earth long enough to observe its people. Surely he would have sensed someone this strong, right?

"I think I should go take a look. We'll know soon enough!"

"Right!"

Thor didn't wait for his friends. Gripping his hammer, he spun it a few times and hurled it forward. Mjölnir pulled him into the sky, flying toward the crater.

His four friends glanced at each other, then followed after him.

But unlike Thor, they didn't fly—they had to walk, because none of them possessed the ability to fly.
