Chapter 22 - Chapter 23

Lu Yi had killed people before, but he had always used fireworks and hand strikes. The people he killed all had something in common: their corpses were pitch black and their necks twisted. He had never seen a scene like this before—bodies severed at the waist, intestines and organs scattered everywhere. Lu Yi not only felt nauseous, but also somewhat uncomfortable.

Fortunately, this discomfort came and went quickly.

Soon, Lu Yi returned to normal!

It happened so fast that he barely reacted.

"Am I a murderer? Or have I watched too many bloody American TV shows? Have I already adapted to this?"

Lu Yi didn't understand exactly why, but to him, this was a good thing.

He didn't dwell on it. Instead, he shifted his attention to Jason, who was still alive.

Lu Yi had deliberately controlled the direction of his attacks, choosing to ignore Jason—so Jason survived.

"Do you know why I didn't kill you?" Lu Yi walked up to Jason and asked.

"You want to know who the mastermind is!" Jason said calmly.

Though the situation was tense, Jason wasn't stupid. He believed he had a chance to survive. As long as Lu Yi wanted to know who was behind all this, he wouldn't kill him.

"No. I already have a general idea who it is—so that's not why I kept you alive."

"You're lying!"

"Striker is one of them."

Colonel Striker and Jason had a close relationship, so he was definitely involved.

When Jason heard Striker's name, he immediately knew Lu Yi was telling the truth. He fell silent, and the cold expression on his face faded.

Striker had always hidden Jason away. Very few people knew about their connection. Lu Yi mentioning Striker's name meant something.

"Why didn't you kill me, then? What's the reason?"

"Because I haven't had enough fun. So use your illusion powers—attack me."

Jason had never heard such a request before. He was stunned. He looked at Lu Yi as if he were a fool.

"You only have one chance. Attack now—or die."

Lu Yi wasn't some masochist—he had a purpose.

Jason didn't know what that purpose was—but he knew this was his only path to survival.

His expression turned serious, and he launched his attack.

Jason knew Lu Yi wasn't ordinary, so he immediately unleashed his strongest illusion—pouring everything he had into constructing a battlefield of illusions.

A surge of killing intent flooded into Lu Yi's mind, attempting to break his mental block.

Lu Yi's mental occlusion technique wasn't easy to break. One strong hit wasn't enough.

However, because of that, Lu Yi developed a strange sensation—a desire to kill.

The mental sealing didn't completely block the illusion. Although it didn't fully affect his five senses, it did influence Lu Yi to some extent.

"Is this your strongest attack?" Lu Yi's eyes now carried a growing sense of bloodlust. He restrained his urge to kill Jason and said:

"If this is all you've got, then I'll have to kill you."

Lu Yi's killing intent was so strong that Jason didn't doubt his words at all.

Jason did not want to die. He pushed his illusions even further, trying to break through Lu Yi's mental defenses.

But unfortunately, Lu Yi's mental barrier was like tempered glass reinforced with steel wire—while Jason's illusion was like a hammer.

The hammer struck the glass again and again, leaving cracks—but never breaking through to the other side.

With each attempt, the hammer failed. Whether due to fear or overexertion, sweat began to pour down Jason's twisted face, and terror filled his eyes.

"So that's all you've got. Don't blame me for not letting you go. You've only disappointed me!"

As soon as Lu Yi finished speaking, he was ready to kill Jason.

Jason looked at Lu Yi—his words didn't seem meant to scare him, but the fear still hit him hard. Especially when he saw Lu Yi's eyes turning red—just like before he unleashed those beams.

Between life and death lies both great fear—and great opportunity.

At that critical instant, Jason's illusion suddenly became stronger. The unbreakable "glass" finally cracked—a tiny opening.

For most people, this crack would mean nothing. But for him, it was enough.

The illusion power surged through the crack—finally breaking past the mental blockade.

Lu Yi saw a sudden flicker—and Jason's position shifted unnaturally.

Instinctively, Lu Yi fired a heat beam in Jason's "new direction." The "Jason" in front of him was instantly split in half—just like the special forces soldiers earlier.

But Lu Yi didn't feel satisfied, nor did he leave. He activated the heat vision again—scanning Jason's original spot.

Bang!

Like a smashed watermelon, a mass of flesh and blood burst into existence, staining the ground red and white.

The body that had been sliced in half slowly began to fade. Within seconds—it disappeared completely.

Everything returned to silence.

"Are you stupid? Even if it's an illusion, at least make it realistic. You suddenly change direction—who do you think you are? Apart from illusions, you are nothing. And you actually thought that would work. Ha! Try making a better illusion in your next life!"
