Chapter 174 - Chapter 174: We’re Screwed—Even Dumbledore Has Defected!

Inside The Burrow, silence fell.

For a good ten-plus seconds, it was so quiet you could've heard a pin drop.

Mr. Weasley froze for a beat, then his expression turned serious. He looked straight at Harry and spoke in a low, firm voice.

"Harry… I don't think your idea is wrong. The wizarding world does need change. But this is the kind of thing you only ever say in private. Don't go saying it out loud in public."

A hundred years ago, Grindelwald had said similar things.

He wanted to overturn the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy and build a new order led by the most capable witches and wizards—an order where wizards ruled Muggles in the name of "the greater good."

Grindelwald believed wizards were a higher form of existence. They shouldn't hide their power or identity. Muggles should know, and Muggles should obey.

To achieve that vision, he sought the Deathly Hallows, convinced that with them he could become the master of Death and gain the power needed to force his revolution into reality.

He built his own forces, carried out attacks and destruction across Europe, flaunting wizarding strength to spread fear—clearing the road for his ideals.

Fifty years ago, Voldemort had said similar things too.

Only he was even more extreme.

He craved absolute power. He wanted everyone to fear him, to submit to him. He believed he was born to rule, that the wizarding world should revolve entirely around his will.

And now—Harry, the savior who had defeated Voldemort twice, was saying things that sounded uncomfortably close to what the last two Dark Lords had said.

It made Arthur Weasley's skin crawl.

Did Harry… also want to become a Dark Lord?

No. Impossible. Absolutely impossible.

If even Harry had thoughts like that, then the wizarding world really would be beyond saving.

Harry was only just finishing first year—about to start second year—and he'd already beaten Voldemort a second time. His talent was beyond Voldemort and Grindelwald.

If Harry truly wanted to become a Dark Lord… once he matured, even Dumbledore likely wouldn't be able to stop him.

And then who could?

Arthur exhaled, telling himself he was overthinking things. Hogwarts still had Dumbledore watching over everything.

If Harry had even the slightest dangerous intention, Dumbledore would stop him immediately.

After all… Dumbledore wouldn't want Hogwarts producing a second Voldemort, right?

But then Arthur noticed Harry looking at him.

Those deep eyes seemed to pierce straight through his thoughts, and Harry said lightly, "Mr. Weasley, actually… Headmaster Dumbledore has been thinking about changing the wizarding world too. Third-years and above have already started large-scale combat drills."

Arthur Weasley: "???!!!"

We're finished.

The wizarding world is finished.

So the next crisis sweeping the entire wizarding world wasn't just coming from Harry—Dumbledore had "switched sides" too?!

Boss… why are you staging a coup?!

Harry only gave Mr. Weasley that small hint, enough to spark suspicion. He didn't actually reveal the real plan he and Dumbledore were working on.

Because those plans were top-level secrets. Even Professor McGonagall, someone Dumbledore trusted deeply, knew nothing about them.

If anything leaked, the plan wouldn't even get off the ground before the entire wizarding world turned on them.

Even if Harry and Dumbledore didn't fear a crackdown from the British Ministry of Magic… what about the Ministries of other countries?

Magic in this world was strange and mysterious—fundamentally a power of will and mind. Over thousands of years, it had evolved and accumulated frightening depth.

And somewhere in the shadows, there were still things like ancient magic—true trump cards. No one could be certain that, in some far-off corner of the world, a wizard of terrifying strength wasn't living quietly, watching everything unfold.

Nicolas Flamel had survived for over six centuries with the Sorcerer's Stone. Who knew what other unknown methods of life extension existed?

The wizarding world ran far deeper than it looked. There might be wizards hidden in the dark who were far stronger than Dumbledore, silently observing.

Even so, despite Harry only dropping a hint, Arthur Weasley's expression toward him changed completely.

He opened his mouth like he wanted to say something… then closed it again.

Because he had to admit it.

Even he was tempted.

This wizarding world was rotten, stagnant, closed off for countless ages. It really did need someone to lead it into change.

But he would watch a little longer—not just because he had a family and children, but because he needed to be sure Harry wasn't like the last two Dark Lords.

Was Harry fighting for power… or for the true "greater good"?

Maybe, in the not-too-distant future, wizards and Muggles really could live peacefully together.

After some more chatting, the kids—who'd been up all night—were heavy with sleepiness and headed off to their rooms.

Even then, Ginny still clung stubbornly to Harry, refusing to let him go, insisting Harry should accompany her back to bed—until Mrs. Weasley shut that down immediately.

So the twins shared one room. Ron and Harry shared one. And Hermione shared with Ginny.

Harry could already imagine what kind of sparks Hermione and Ginny might set off in the same room.

Would they fight?

But what happened next shocked him.

The next day, when Harry saw them again, the two neat, pretty young witches were actually hugging each other, whispering to one another while occasionally glancing at him.

Since when were they that close?

Harry was confused… but he accepted it.

Girls' friendships were weird like that. He'd seen it plenty of times while studying across the multiverse.

After breakfast, Hermione suddenly brought Ginny over. Both of them stared at Harry with eyes practically shining as Hermione asked, "Harry, can you take us to Diagon Alley later? I've never gone around Diagon Alley on my own, and neither has Ginny."

Ron immediately perked up. "I want to go too! There's a shop I've wanted to check out for ages."

Ginny rejected him instantly, without even blinking. "No. This is my, Hermione's, and Harry's date. No outsiders allowed!"

Ron: "???"

I'm your brother!

And what do you mean, date?!

Mrs. Weasley frowned at Ginny's wording, but still refused them. "No. You three going to Diagon Alley alone could be dangerous. There are bad people there."

Ginny immediately trotted over and turned on the charm, clinging to her mother's arm. "Pleeease, Mum. I want to go shopping with Harry! And you know he beat You-Know-Who recently. You don't seriously think some random dark wizards are stronger than You-Know-Who, do you?"

Mrs. Weasley couldn't resist Ginny when she got like that. And Harry's strength really could handle most problems.

So she sighed with a smile, patted Ginny's head, and relented. "All right. But only this once."

Ron muttered under his breath, sulking, "No. That's not fair…"

Harry didn't choose to open a portal to Diagon Alley. Instead, he decided to use Floo Powder.

After all, both he and Hermione came from the Muggle world, and neither of them had ever experienced Floo travel.

Hermione was simply curious.

Harry, meanwhile, wanted to study Floo Powder and see whether he could build interconnected spatial channels across the multiverse using a similar principle.

He could also stabilize portals—but that required huge quantities of rare materials. Even Kamar-Taj couldn't stabilize many, only linking Kamar-Taj to the three Sanctums.

So reducing the cost of stabilized portals was important.

Ginny went first. She confidently demonstrated how to do it for Harry and Hermione.

Emerald-green flames flared.

Ginny's body vanished into the fire, sent through the Floo Network to the Leaky Cauldron.

Hermione went second.

It was her first time, and she was clearly nervous.

Mrs. Weasley soothed her from the side. "Don't worry, dear. It's simple. Just say the words clearly."

Hermione nodded, spoke the destination, tossed in the powder—and disappeared into the fireplace.

But Harry stared at the spot she vanished from, his expression turning sharply blank.

If he hadn't misheard… Hermione had probably said Diagon Alley wrong.

Judging by the spatial ripple, the mistake wasn't far.

There was a very real chance she'd ended up in Knockturn Alley.

Harry's chest tightened. When he noticed the Weasleys hadn't realized anything was off, he didn't want to alarm them. He immediately grabbed a handful of Floo Powder, said "Diagon Alley," and vanished into the fireplace.

The instant he threw the powder, Harry felt his body yanked by a violent force—then spun rapidly, as if he'd been dragged into a high-speed vortex.

When the blur snapped back into focus, Ginny was there waiting for him.

Harry mentally recorded the experience. Then, without wasting a second, he grabbed Ginny's hand and pulled her toward Diagon Alley.

Ginny was thrilled to be holding Harry's hand, but she still asked, puzzled, "Harry, where's Hermione? Aren't we waiting for her?"

Harry smiled smoothly. "She's waiting at a different exit. We'll meet up with her."

Without making it obvious, Harry reinforced both of their physiques, pushing their physical strength up another notch—Ginny included, bringing her up to an adult level.

Because Harry had run experiments in Knockturn Alley more than once before, he was practically a regular there.

Based on his guess, the fireplace exit Hermione connected to was most likely inside Borgin and Burkes.

The owner wasn't exactly a saint—but he wasn't a reckless monster either. If anything, he was cautious, the kind of businessman who preferred avoiding trouble. He probably wouldn't attack Hermione outright.

At most, he'd throw her out of the shop.

The real danger would start after Hermione left Borgin and Burkes—because the dark wizards lurking nearby would likely mark her as prey.

But they were cautious too.

And after what Harry had done in Knockturn Alley recently, they'd be even more sensitive. They would first confirm whether Hermione had an adult wizard escorting her.

That meant Hermione should have at least ten minutes of relative safety.

And if Harry moved fast, he and Ginny could arrive in about five.

With that time gap, Harry was confident Hermione wouldn't be harmed.

And part of that confidence came from the instinctive warning sense provided by chaos magic.

Taking Ginny through a maze of turns, Harry led her into Knockturn Alley.

When they rounded another corner, they immediately spotted Hermione stepping out of Borgin and Burkes.

And at that exact moment, several dark wizards' eyes lit up.

They closed in around her.
