Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 R1: The Reminder

(Pay attention to when I use Peter vs. Spiderman that matters)

Sorry for traumatizing you this chapter)

3rd Person POV

Morlun stalks the group of spidermen methodically. He picks off stragglers here and there like a predator hunting prey. Spidermen desperately fight back and even get a few hits, and yet it's as if Morlun is unaffected.

Morlun darts from ruin to ruin, ambushing Spider after Spider, causing the Warden to yell loudly, "Form into groups of 4 or more, we can't let him keep picking us off like this." Spidermen formed up and spread out. You would wonder why their Spider senses weren't working, and the answer was clear. The Spider-Men from this universe, plus Morlun, have ripped apart the thread, causing massive fluctuations that affect the Spider-Men.

Spider-Men spread out across the ruins of New York as Morlun merely laughed. He was having such a feast and the ability to spit in the phase of the Web of Life and Destiny.

Morlun decided to end this slow charade.|

"Is this the best the Web can muster in defence? So fragile and yet so delicious." Morlun taunted loudly as he stood before the remaining Spider-Men. "You're even now shaking in fear at the thought of this Spiderman getting out; it empowers me. TRULY pathetic." Morlun continued.

The Warden gritted his teeth as he had lost over 100 Spider-Men that entered and was now down to 50 remaining. Morlun was an Apex Predator to Spider Totems.

The fear from the remaining Spiders enthralled Morlun before a laugh cut through his train of thought.

"Imagine needing help from an external source." The Thread Breaker spoke mockingly.

"I am more than you could ever be, Morlun. You are a mere fish in a small pond." " And you, Warden, are nothing but a puppet of Neith—all that intelligence and not a single thought about yourself. Sacrifice this and sacrifice that until there is nothing left."

"Do you even have a reason to fight?" "With great power comes great responsibility. Responsibility is a lie; all I have ever done is lose." Peter spoke sincerely for a moment.

"You mock Uncle Ben because you can not bear the truth; You were never burdened with responsibility. The Warden spoke, staring Peter directly in the face.

"You were addicted to it." The Warden spoke coldly to Spiderman.

There was a pause in the deafening silence. The planet itself rattled, as if it quaked with fear or laughter; the cause seemed right in front of the Warden.

"HAHAAHHAHAHHAHAHAAHAHAH NOW THAT'S FUNNY." Spiderman howled in laughter.

Peter's tone instantly dropped in seriousness. "You think I wanted any of it? Responsibility didn't make me a hero, merely a hostage."

Peter continued, "I was trapped in a cycle of saving one to lose two, and HERE I AM NOW." "DO YOU SEE ME NOW?"

Spiderman moved as if he teleported, sending Morlun spiraling into the ground and The Warden crashing through ruins.

"I do not bow to false gods, nor predators." Spiderman decided to bully Morlun for the time being, while Tony and Nick sat in silence. Symbiotes surrounding them, watching their every move and paying close attention to their brother "Madness".

Several remaining hordes of Hydra and Skrull charge towards Nick, attempting to save him and get revenge against Spidermen, but it was all in vain.

The symbiotes effortlessly wiped out every agent and alien alike. As the last of the remaining survivors fall, Spiderman continues in his duel against Morlun and Warden.

"You hunt Totems, and you defend the web, and neither of you can beat me, how ironic."

1st Person POV (Peter)

I felt true power in that very moment. I wasn't weighted down by any responsibility, nor by my own weakness.

I launched forward as orange tentacles shot out of my back, latching onto another prey. This Spiderman seemed to be from a rock band as I ripped him in half.

Madness: "That didn't rock."

Orangie's sense of humor was by far still a work in progress, but I am trying here, okay.

I look at Morlun and Warden, who are beaten and on the ground in disbelief.

I think back to before for a moment before my being trembles again. The voices still echo sometimes, and reminders of my past surface once more.

FLASHBACK

1 Month Before

I awoke to the comfort of Felecia sleeping next to me. She had been the one holding me together after Gwen's brutal death. I don't sleep much anymore and hear voices now. It is truly a miserable life, but at the very least, she is here.

I instinctively pull her tightly as she is the only one left who cares about me in this world. She slowly stirs, looks into my eyes, and speaks in a soft, feminine voice. "Tiger, you need to sleep." Before Peter could even say, she pushed a finger towards his mouth and pulled him closer to her. For once, he felt a small semblance of peace.

---------------------------------------------

I landed on a building, chasing another hallucination of someone I cared about, now gone. The voices were growing louder each passing day, and I don't know how much more I can take.

I begin staring off into the distance, as if searching for the faintest bit of anything. I push my hand forward, as if trying to grasp someone not their own. I am reminded of how much I have lost. Was it truly worth it?

"YOU FAILED HER, PETER!" A voice screamed

"Seems your nightmare is yet unfinished," spoke another

"I await the day you make the desperate deal," said a calculating voice

"SHUT UP!!!!!" Peter roared

Silence overtook the roof as Peter looked to see the bustling city of New York and all it had taken from him.

Felicia dropped beside him with a soft thud.

"You're talking to yourself again." She spoke directly.

Peter responded, "Merely lost in thought." He continued staring off into the distance.

"No, Peter, thinking is quiet; what you're doing is loud." Felcia fired back.

"It's fine, Felicia, don't worry about it." He spoke softly back to her.

"You're shaking, Peter." She said in a stern tone.

I looked down to see my hands violently trembling.

"You're barely home, you don't eat or speak much, you see and hear things that you don't, and I need you to talk to me."

I tried to deny that the truth wasn't as bad as she had made it, and yet no excuse came out. She calls out to me, and I truly turn to look at her.

Felicia POV

I look at Peter, and all I see is brokenness. The circles under his eyes and the missing light in his eyes. He doesn't make jokes anymore, and he barely talks to me. Every time I try to reach out, he has to "go out on patrol" and run away.

Today I saw him unguarded and completely broken. The eyes that once stood firm in justice and heroism, using his power to protect, were nowhere to be found. All I saw was a man hanging by a thread. Peter's eyes were lifeless and empty as if he were merely an audience in his own life.

I saw the grief that had consumed him over the death of his previous girlfriend, Gwen Stacy. The way he had to handle Uncle Ben and Aunt May's death. To watch his best friend, Harry, and MJ die right in front of him.

To even watch his former mentor slowly lose himself after Pepper's death. One of the final straws to which he won't tell me anything about is the death of Miles.

He has endured a lifetime of suffering, and he fears something will happen to me. He clings to me desperately in his sleep and holds me close as if I might disappear.

I reach out my hand to his cheek and speak softly, "You don't have to be okay for me to stay. You know I care about you".

He trembled as he looked at me desperately and spoke, "I don't know how to stop."

"Don't worry, I am not leaving anytime soon," as I pull him into a gentle kiss.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

I awoke as Peter jolted awake, drenched in sweat, muttering something, but he seemed genuinely terrified. I embrace him, reminding him I am still here, still with him. That I love him and that I would be with him through this.

--------------------------------------------------

Peter POV

The rain is pouring as I swing desperately towards the help signal that Felicia sent. I had begged her to get something that would let me know where she was and whether she needed help. I rushed as fast as I could, swinging and leaping through New York.

"Damn IT PETER, THE ONE time you decide to leave her for a moment."

The voices mocked me, and I spoke to myself and what felt like the very universe itself, "I won't let it happen again." My words darkened, dripping with bloodlust as the voice instantly stopped.

I arrive at the location and find Felicia imprisoned by a dozen or so goons. I see her broken form, and my Spider Sense explodes. I rushed forward to the first goon, swinging into him with both feet as I slammed into him, and he fell off the roof.

I punch harder and fight more furiously than ever before. Gunfire erupts as I dodge and mercilessly beat my opponents. I snap a man's leg in half while breaking another man's arm.

Minutes pass as I am covered in blood, and the roof is cluttered with faint grunts and shallow breathing. I look to Felecia and walk slowly over to her.

"Took you a little while, tiger," she says jokingly in a quiet voice.

I reach for her before we hit the building's ground floor, and we crash down. I look to see Felecia in immense pain and immediately dive towards her, shooting his web to catch her. The distance between them increases, and even Peter doesn't understand why he isn't getting closer.

The ground closes in as the thread inches closer and closer to her. Peter looks at her with tears in his eyes. Felicia merely looked at him, and reading her lips, she said, "I love you, Peter."

Bang

The thread reaches her a moment too late as she slams into the ground. Peter lands with his face devoid of anything. He pulls her lifeless body into his lap. This was the same as with Gwen. The same when he lost his friends, powerless and unable to do anything at all.

I slammed my fists into the ground in pure rage, shaking the ground. "It was my fault, WHY WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I shriek as the voice's laughter echoes.

3rd Person POV

A figure stood in the distance, lowering his middle finger and smirking.

"A Spider woven in hope is not interesting, but a spider woven in loss. That is truly something worth watching."

"He will believe it was his own fault as grief and rage consume him; that's why the sacrifice has already been prepared."

The man disappears as if he were never there.

BREAKING NEWS: Another sad death as Felicia Hardy died in a building explosion linked to Kingpin Wilson Fisk. Spider-Man was also reported spotted at the scene.

Spiderman stared at the Jumbotron playing the news as a single name echoed in his head, "Wilson Fisk."
