Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Cruel things are rewarded

Officer Lyne, what happened?

Peter looked out the car window and asked Officer Lyne, who was maintaining order at the scene.

"A guy single-handedly robbed the bank and injured the security guards."

Lyne put away his walkie-talkie. "This is the first time anyone has dared to rob a Luthor Family bank."

"Luthor Family?"

Peter turned his gaze to the bank not far away.

The words "Luthor Family Investment Bank" came into his view.

Jonathan, sitting in the passenger seat, complained, "Leno Luther robs ordinary people's money, and the robber robs Leno Luther's money. The difference is that the former is legal, and the latter is illegal."

"Cough, cough."

Lyne coughed, pretending not to hear.

"That robber is not simple. The security said he was like a monster. In these troubled times, we should all keep a low profile, don't you agree, Peter?"

Seeing Lyne turn the topic to him, Peter shook his head. "I have always been a low-key person, Officer Lyne."

"Uh-huh, maybe. I wish you a pleasant afternoon."

After greeting Peter and the other person, he turned and left.

After Lyne left, Peter did not start the car. Instead, he looked solemnly at the bank, whose glass door was shattered on the ground.

Who the hell did this?

The Luthor Family bank was his "private plot."

Originally, he had planned that after the Metropolis gangs had been completely "fleeced" by him, he would then come to the Luthor Family bank to rob it. He didn't expect someone to beat him to it.

"Peter, are you alright?"

Seeing Peter not driving and staring at the bank, Jonathan thought something was wrong with him.

"I'm fine, I'm just wondering who did it."

Peter said while starting the car and heading to the mayor's office.

Metropolis, Leno Luther's office.

Leno, sitting in the manager's chair, was watching the surveillance footage from the Luthor Family Investment Bank.

In the video, the guy wearing a devil mask grabbed the security guard by the neck and violently threw him forward.

"Crash!"

The security guard's body shattered the glass and crashed heavily onto the road.

"Bang!"

The security guard hiding in the corner of the counter fired a shot at the robber.

Unexpectedly, after being hit, the robber only took a step back, and then, under the shocked gaze of the armed security guard, grabbed him and slammed him against the wall with a "bang."

The security guard, whose back was impacted, slid down the wall, spitting blood.

Seeing this, Leno Luther frowned.

"Creak!"

Just as he was watching the surveillance footage, the door suddenly opened.

The bald Rex Luther walked in.

"Father?"

Seeing his son enter, Leno Luther immediately pressed the remote control to turn off the surveillance footage.

"Rex, you should knock."

Leno Luther turned to face Rex.

Leno had always felt indebted to this son.

Six years ago, he drove his two-year-old Rex to Smallville.

On the way, Rex wanted to urinate.

At that time, he was on a phone call, so he did not accompany Rex into the cornfield.

As a result, meteorites fell from the sky and impacted the cornfield.

When he rushed into the cornfield, he found his unconscious son.

Afterward, examinations showed that although Rex was fine, his hair could no longer grow, possibly due to radiation exposure.

Rex did not know that his father was thinking about the meteorite shower that caused his hair loss again.

He gently closed the door and said, "Sorry, Father, I will be careful next time."

"I want to talk to you about Valena."

Rex's small face was taut. "Father, Valena is a very competent nanny. I don't understand why you want to fire her."

"You came in just to talk about this?"

"Yes, I hope you can reconsider, Father."

"You are still young, and there are many things you don't understand, Rex."

Rex argued, "I don't understand nothing, Father. Valena is a diligent employee, so she should be rewarded, not punished. This is a normal law of nature, isn't that what you taught me?"

"You think I'm wrong?"

"No, Father, I just…"

Rex looked at his father's intimidating aura, his voice weakening a bit.

Leno stood up, his piercing gaze fixed on him. "Let me tell you, Rex, people perceive nature in a certain way, believing it to be harmonious and fair, but in fact, it is not. It leans more towards the evil side, and cruel things are rewarded. Do you understand?"

Rex looked at Leno Luther in astonishment.

He seemed to be seeing his father for the first time.

He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but finally walked out of the office in silence.

Looking at his son's somewhat lonely back, Leno suddenly felt a little regretful.

He shouldn't have said those things to him.

He was about to apologize to Rex, but the phone suddenly rang.

Frowning, he picked up the phone.

"Sir, that swamp land has been bought."

Hearing that the swamp land he was preparing to acquire had been snatched up, Leno Luther's mood worsened.

"I don't care what method you use, get me the ownership of that land!"

Leno, who already knew that the swamp was unusual, was naturally unwilling to let others take it.

"Sir, we have found out. It's Peter Patrick. He signed a contract with the mayor before us."

Hearing Peter's name, Leno was stunned.

After a while, he said to the other end of the phone, "Don't touch him yet."

"Peter Patrick."

Repeating Peter's name, his expression became complicated.

Peter was currently on his way back to the farm, unaware that someone was thinking about him.

"Buzz!"

The sound of the lawnmower started, and Mark was muttering that his father hadn't come back yet.

He pushed the lawnmower forward, trimming the weeds in the grass.

Since the pasture hadn't been cleared recently, the grass was growing more and more vigorously.

Out of a sense of duty to help with farm work, Mark voluntarily picked up the lawnmower to mow the lawn.

"Click!"

Perhaps something got stuck in the lawnmower, causing the machine to stop.

Mark, puzzled, bent down, wanting to check what was wrong with the machine.

He put his finger into the rotating blade, wanting to pull out a steel bar stuck inside.

"Bang!"

With a slight pull, the steel bar was pulled out by him.

The high-speed rotating blade also started to turn, instantly pulling his fingers in.

Startled, Mark quickly pulled out his fingers and pushed forward.

As a result, in his excitement, he threw the lawnmower into the air.

Mark watched in astonishment as he threw the lawnmower into the sky like a baseball, and then it fell vertically.

By the Barn, Clark, who was helping to move things, heard a strange sound from the sky.

"Hmm?"

He looked up in confusion, only to see the lawnmower, magnified in his eyes.

"Clang!"
