Chapter 110: Breaking the Record
Sakai Yumi quickly analyzed, "As soon as Satsuma Rentaro's squad entered their attack range, all three of them retreated, and they only sent clones to test us. But how did they escape so quickly? My eyes can see chakra within a 520-meter radius!"
Satsuma Rentaro said, "If they ran away, it means they're afraid of us."
Sakai Yumi shook her head. "They have a Hyuga Clan member whose vision range should be greater than mine. Upon hearing this, Matsushita Satoru and Kido Kohaku complained. But Sakai Yumi said, "If Rentaro's squad hadn't appeared, we might have already died at the hands of that Konoha squad. So we owe them a debt."
Rentaro and his group agreed to the terms, and then they began treating their wounds.
After their wounds were healed, they moved together until they found the required scroll.
Throughout their time in the Forest of Death, they remained highly vigilant, wary of any ambush.
But they were never attacked by Kaito's squad again. After all, they had already passed the Chunin Exams before Kaito's clones even engaged the six of them!
Inside the Tower
Inside the tower, Kaito, Mieko, and Hodaka opened the two scrolls, summoning their former Academy teacher, Adachi Genki.
He was pleased to see Kaito and Hodaka and was shocked that they had passed the exam so quickly!
He said, "Kaito, Hodaka, it's good to see you both again, and you too, Mieko. I didn't expect you to take the Chunin Exams so soon. But how did you pass the second stage this quickly? It hasn't even been an hour."
Mieko looked at Kaito with displeasure. "We shouldn't have finished so quickly!"
Kaito shrugged. "We encountered a team with the scroll we needed and easily defeated them. They quickly handed over the scroll, and we hurried toward the tower. After that, we did engage a Hidden Mist team, but they ran away, and we entered the tower."
Genki was surprised. "You did all that in less than an hour?"
All three of them nodded, none of them finding it difficult.
Genki sighed, seeing that none of them considered it a challenge. "Then congratulations to you all. The previous record was 5 hours and 30 minutes, set by Uchiha Itachi's squad. You broke his record by a huge margin."
This greatly surprised Mieko and Hodaka. Kaito also feigned surprise. Mieko quickly exclaimed, "We broke Itachi's record? Really?"
She was very excited. "And by over four and a half hours?"
Kaito thought, I've never heard her mention Itachi, but she's so excited about breaking his record? Is she trying to compete with him? Poor girl.
Kaito chuckled and teased her, "If you had listened to me, we could have shaved off another five minutes, but you insisted on wasting time."
Mieko glared at Kaito. She was still annoyed that he'd brought them into the tower so quickly. She reluctantly admitted, "If I had known this record was held by Itachi, I would have agreed."
Kaito chuckled, then suddenly sighed. "If we had finished within half an hour, I don't think anyone could break our record. It can still be broken now, all because of you two."
Hodaka and Mieko both looked at Kaito expressionlessly. Genki exclaimed in shock, "You could have finished even faster?"
Hodaka said, "Alright, you win. Now stop gloating!"
Mieko snorted. "If you want to set a record, then fail this exam and take it again next year."
Now it was Kaito's turn to be expressionless. He replied, "You know, the third stage is one-on-one combat. You'd best not meet me in the first round, or you'll be defeated by my clones again."
Kaito sneered after he finished speaking. Mieko was furious. "You—"
However, before the argument could escalate further, Genki interrupted them. "Alright, you can argue later. You've admirably set a new record for the second stage of the Chunin Exams. Now I'll explain the meaning of the characters on the wall behind me."
Hearing this, the genin carefully looked at the wall behind Genki. Kaito remembered, Oh right, I completely forgot about that.
Then Genki began to explain the same content that Iruka had explained to Team 7 in the original timeline. Kaito, Hodaka, and Mieko listened, but none of them were very interested.
As Genki explained, Kaito received the memories of his Shadow Clone. His thoughts drifted. Ice Release kekkei genkai, huh? And the possibility that they've participated in actual battles. Inuzuka Tsume was shocked. "What? Already?"
Even her ninja dog, Kuromaru, was surprised. The chunin nodded in astonishment. "Yes, they entered the tower in just forty-seven minutes!"
Inuzuka Tsume was stunned. The record had been broken by nearly 5 hours! She asked, "Which team is it?"
The chunin replied, "It's Senju Renjiro's genin squad."
She thought for a moment. "I heard that Renjiro trains his students very hard. It seems the rumors are true—the beasts in the forest are no problem for them. Breaking Itachi's record is something they can be proud of."
She looked at the chunin. "Go give them instructions for the next five days."
He nodded and left.
