Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: You'd Better Fend for Yourself

She picked up a fish, weighed it, and felt it was quite substantial.

It should be enough for her to eat for several days.

Using the bone knife Rhys Blackwood had thrown by the riverside, she skillfully cleaned them and carried a few fish to go back.

She glanced at the set of toiletries placed on the riverbank and bent down to embrace them.

She didn't roast the fish by the riverside.

If Rhys Blackwood saw her staying for too long, he might think she was intentionally enticing him, which would only make him dislike her even more.

By then, it would be more difficult to win him over.

Luna Sutton first placed the set of toiletries back in the cave.

At this time, Corbin Crowley had already left; she didn't even know when.

She felt a sigh of relief in her heart, not wanting to face that cold face, nor fearing that man would kill her.

Reflecting on the kick she previously delivered, she felt a bit guilty, unsure if it would cause trouble.

She put down the toiletries and then carried the fish out of the cave.

She remembered there was a little valley near the tribe where few people went and no wild animals. She planned to roast the fish there.

This place was rather secluded; the original owner often came here alone when feeling down.

Following her memory, she arrived at the valley, where weeds were growing thick and tall trees surrounded the area, so large that it would take five or six people to encircle them. The shade from the trees blocked the sunlight, making it quite cool.

It's a perfect place for roasting fish.

Without a lighter, she could only use primitive methods to start a fire, by friction of wood.

Actually, there is a bonfire pile at the Tribal Square.

Every evening, the tribe's men, women, young and old gather around to roast meat, sing and dance, in a lively atmosphere.

But she didn't want to go there now.

After a busy while, the bonfire was finally lit.

Watching the burning flames, Luna Sutton skewered the cleaned fish on sharpened sticks and slowly grilled them over the fire.

As they got larger, the fish started making sizzling sounds, and the aroma began to spread.

She swallowed a gulp of saliva, feeling even hungrier.

Although there were no seasonings, the fish meat was fresh, purely natural, and pollution-free, grilled until crispy and fragrant, tasting quite good indeed.

In the apocalypse, wanting to eat pollution-free fish was as rare as winning the lottery.

Not only fish, but also shrimp, various seafood…

In general, the food, clothes, and stuff were either polluted or contained viruses, unsuitable for consumption or use.

Luna Sutton felt sentimental, shaking her head helplessly, savoring the full flavor.

Soon after, she finished one fish, not even feeling half full, barely filling her stomach, and continued to roast the second one.

Only after eating three large fish did she feel her stomach somewhat full.

The original owner had an unusually large appetite, no wonder she was so fat, her stomach stretched open.

But not eating made her uncomfortable.

She wrapped the remaining fish in leaves to take back, planning to eat them for breakfast the next day.

As for the evening, she'd stay hungry — for weight loss.

By now, the sun was leaning west, and she extinguished the fire, preparing to go back.

After taking just two steps, suddenly someone fell from the sky, landing with a "bang" right in front of her, giving her a big scare, instinctively retreating.

Her gaze fell on the person, discovering it was a woman, wearing a dress, similar to the style back in the apocalypse.

The body lay prone, exposing snow-white arms and pale thighs, one high heel still on a foot, the other nowhere to be seen.

Such attire instantly clarified the other's identity.

But wasn't Chloe Callahan supposed to be brought back by Corbin Crowley? Why appear this way? And fall right in front of her?

Luna Sutton looked up at the sky, wondering if dropping from the sky wouldn't result in death?

She expressed deep skepticism.

Walking over, she turned the person over; the skin was quite fair, the appearance delicate, not pretty but not ugly, just a very ordinary girl.

The age seemed to be just graduated from university.

Yet, in a world where skin is commonly dark, yellow, and rough, she's considered a rare beauty.

She checked the other's breath, finding it steady; she was merely knocked unconscious.

Now she was quite conflicted, unsure whether to bring the person back to the tribe or to discard her far away.

Chloe Callahan is the heroine; once she stays in the tribe, all Beastmen would revolve around her, including the original owner's five Beast Husbands.

With Chloe Callahan as a comparison, they would likely dislike her even more.

Although Luna Sutton wouldn't be as reckless as the original owner, she certainly wouldn't allow threats to exist.

Not to mention, her task was to win over the five Beast Husbands, making Chloe Callahan's existence even more intolerable.

Having decided, she bent down to carry Chloe Callahan over her shoulder, heading into the depths of the forest, intending to dump her far away.

As for life or death, she wasn't concerned.

Having struggled in the apocalypse for years, she learned to be cold and selfish because it was essential for survival.

The forest was lush, blocking the sky, only some sunlight filtering through leaves to the ground.

She intentionally walked far away, fearing Corbin Crowley would stumble upon and bring her back.

Though killing the other would be safer, she couldn't bring herself to do it due to inner moral consciousness.

Finding a secluded spot, ensuring it was far from the tribe and unlikely to be visited for hunting, she then discarded Chloe Callahan on the ground.

"Fend for yourself then."

Luna Sutton coldly remarked.

Seeing the sky darkening, she dared not linger in the forest and swiftly turned to leave.

On the way back, she picked quite a few wild fruits and luckily found a nest with bird eggs, eight in total.

She also noticed quite a few wild vegetables; fearing a beast might jump out from some corner as night approached, she dared not pick them.

Planning to return tomorrow to pick them and check if Chloe Callahan was alive or dead, or still present.

When she returned to the tribe, night had fully fallen.

The bonfire at the Tribal Square burned brightly, illuminating the surroundings and dispelling the night chill.

The tribe's people, both young and old, gathered by the bonfire, roasting meat, chatting, and laughing, in a lively atmosphere.

She just prepared to walk over when Mia saw her, startled slightly, then came over.

Mia was the most beautiful female in the tribe, with a voluptuous figure, open personality, having seven Beast Husbands, all outstanding beastmen in the tribe.

Yet, she wasn't satisfied and wanted the original owner's Beast Husbands.

Especially Corbin Crowley and Rhys Blackwood, thus detesting the original owner, constantly causing her troubles.

Luna Sutton saw Mia approaching and didn't need to guess to know the other's intentions — merely to mock and belittle her.

"Luna Sutton, we all know about you feeding Corbin Crowley aphrodisiac fruit today. You're shameless; Corbin doesn't like you at all, and yet you resort to such disgraceful means."

Mia looked at her, full of disdain and ridicule in her voice.

Her voice was particularly loud, and everyone nearby heard it, turning their scornful and disgusted gazes in her direction.

Luna Sutton didn't care about the surrounding looks, her expression bland as she looked at Mia, "And then? What does it have to do with you?"

Mia was angered by her indifferent demeanor, her face turning pale with rage.

Then, noticing her hand holding wild fruits and bird eggs, she mocked, "How useless, as a female, you have to find food yourself. If I were you, I'd have killed myself long ago."

Instantly, laughter erupted all around.
