Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Wasteland

"Can't see it?"

Yu Jin frowned slightly, but quickly relaxed.

"Well, yeah, we're already Tier Five Evolvers. Not being able to see info for a Level 1 skill makes sense."

"But I wonder how to upgrade this 'Eye of Insight.' The system doesn't give any hints..."

"If it only lets me see Tier One info, then it's honestly pretty useless."

Yu Jin muttered to himself and put those thoughts aside.

His gaze returned to the translucent panel in front of him.

"Alright, last one, give me something spicy!"

Yu Jin vaguely sensed a pattern with the Points Mall: the further back the item, the higher the value.

[Resource: Legacy left behind by a certain Tier Six Powerful Being]

[Price: 200,000 Points]

[Evaluation: Upon opening, there's a chance to obtain resources, abilities, attributes, memory, etc. from the Tier Six Powerful Being during their lifetime—but you might get absolutely nothing, too.]

[Hint: Can only be opened after Tier Six.]

Damn!

Yu Jin was shocked.

This is spicy alright—and it comes with a whopping price tag of 200,000 Points!

But...

"Why does this description sound like a loot box?"

"What you get depends totally on your luck?"

Yu Jin frowned.

200,000 Points is no small number.

Right now, his 500,000 Points are basically all farmed from grinding the 'Zoo' dungeon.

According to the system's annoying style, repeated actions can't trigger rewards again, so finding another points farming dungeon like 'Zoo' won't be easy.

Therefore, gotta be careful!

If luck turns bad, and RNG hates you, that's 200,000 Points down the drain.

Yu Jin started thinking.

After a moment, he made up his mind.

"No rush, the refresh isn't for another ten plus hours anyway."

"I'll wait until the dirty river event wraps up, see how much I earn, and if I get enough Points, then I'll buy it!"

After finishing his daily shopping spree, Yu Jin turned to glance at Old Cui and the other two, finding they were still wearing helmets, showing no signs of waking up.

If Yu Jin's Perception wasn't sharp enough to hear their regular breathing at a distance, he'd have thought something had happened to those three.

"Is Wasteland really that addictive?"

Yu Jin looked on, feeling a bit tempted himself.

If circumstances allowed, he honestly wanted to log into Wasteland and experience what the real Wasteland World was actually like.

Too bad...

The system conflict meant he had to stick to campus for now—feeding stray cats, picking up trash, grinding rewards, leveling up, that sort of life.

With the club activity still over two hours away, Yu Jin didn't hurry to the activity room, nor did he use the time for a nap.

He thought about it, opened the computer on his desk, and searched for the keyword 'Wasteland game' online.

A clicking sound as he hit enter.

One eye-catching webpage title after another flashed across Yu Jin's screen.

[Wasteland game craze sweeps the globe—countless players going wild!]

...

[Deep dive into the makers of Wasteland—'X Company' suddenly emerges!]

...

[Wasteland helmet impossible to buy even for a fortune—game devs send them out randomly, but still no official sale channel?]

...

[Shocking! Top-tier tycoons offering millions for a Wasteland game helmet!]

...

[Let's discuss rationally—does Wasteland, which surpasses Blue Star's tech level, have alien origins?]

...

Yu Jin's attention landed on the last webpage title, and he clicked it, entering.

The next second—

Thousands upon thousands of discussion posts appeared.

"Hahaha, it's the 21st century and people still believe this?"

"First thing the blogger should do is uninstall that damn tomato app from your phone!"

"The realism of Wasteland is so far just 'player' hearsay in my opinion. The game dev skill is top-notch, but no way is it 'super realistic' yet!"

"Realistic? Super real! Watched K-dog's live stream, the stream got shut down right away and he went straight to the shadow realm!"

"If it really was an alien product, you think we'd get to play? The world leaders just sitting on their hands? Come on, we're just the three-thousand-yuan-a-month plebs, this ain't for us!"

"..."

Yu Jin scrolled through the comments with his mouse.

Most of them didn't believe the game was connected to aliens at all.

A handful supported the blogger's viewpoint, and some true believers, but all got gently roasted or outright mocked by the others.

Clearly—

With technology so advanced, people now imagine themselves 'smarter than ever.'

They'd rather trust their common sense and instinctively reject anything wild or out there.

Yu Jin wasn't surprised by this.

He kept scrolling, looking for more info on the Wasteland game.

Soon enough—

Yu Jin did find a few self-proclaimed 'player' posts.

"I'm in Wasteland, started as a refugee!"

"Just logged in and got killed by a freaking giant rat!"

"Respawned and died, same spawn point every time, fought all night, got killed by the rat seventy-three times!"

"Is there anyone who knows how to break out of this loop?"

"Waiting online, urgent!"

...

"I'm in Wasteland, met Superman!"

"Thought it was just a basic wasteland survival world, never expected superpower users!"

"I watched him fly right over my head!"

"Damn, that's so freaking badass!"

"Please, devs, open up the pay channel, I wanna spend money, I wanna fly!"

...

"I'm in Wasteland, spawned as a Black Slave!"

"Damn it, worked hard, walked over ten miles to find a Refuge City..."

"But then got forced out to dig in the wilderness, supposedly to mine Pollution Crystals!"

"I'm a player, no way I'm staying under someone else's thumb forever!"

"Anyone with coordinates near Bright City, let's team up and overthrow the City Lord!"

...

From the sudden appearance of Wasteland to now, it's only been three days.

Obviously—

For these lucky new players who scored a helmet, their exploration of the game is still in the 'clearing the unknown' stage.

Yu Jin spent ages reading posts and found that hardly any players had managed to awaken and become Evolvers yet.

Even those who became Evolvers were just Tier One.

For example, this post Yu Jin was reading—

"Damn!"

"I awakened the 'Electric Current' attribute, super confident, left the city to fight monsters, and got blocked by a dung beetle!"

"Can someone tell me, how is a dung beetle THAT big? THAT strong?"

"I hit it with all my electric current, felt like I was just tickling it!"

"Worst part, it's stuck to me, won't let me go!"

"It wants me to shock it, then when I'm tired lets me rest, and when I'm done, asks for more shocks!"

"I came to Wasteland to be Thunder God, how did I end up a TENS therapist?"

Yu Jin read it and couldn't stop laughing.

Took a glance at the poster's username.

The poster—

Society's Brother Gang!
