Chapter 2 - A Berserk Survey

---

"Oh, come on! Did Casca get kidnapped?

What is the author thinking—hasn't Guts suffered enough?

A young man in his early twenties said as he groaned at his screen.

"You have to be a sadist at this point," he muttered.

"Anyway, that was the most recent chapter… and knowing the manga's schedule, the next one won't come for three or four months."

He leaned back in his chair, rubbing his tired eyes.

"What? When did it become 2 AM?"

He checked the clock again.

"Yeah, okay. I need sleep. I have exams tomorrow and—"

He froze.

"Huh? What's this ad?"

[Berserk Survey — Ultimate Fan Edition]

[Welcome to the Ultimate Berserk Survey!

You've spent countless hours reading and watching Berserk.

Now it's time to put that knowledge to the test!]

──────✦──────

---

[1. Which Berserk character do you relate to the most?]

A. Griffith

B. Guts

C. Casca

D. Corkus

E. Other

"Hmm, a survey? Ultimate fan edition?

Bold of them to assume they know more than me."

He grinned and clicked instantly.

"Well, Guts, obviously. We've both suffered enough."

He selected "B"without hesitation and clicked *Next.*

---

[2. Did Casca enjoy it?]

A. Yes

B. No

He blinked.

"What kind of degenerate question is this?

Did a Griffith fan make this survey?"

He clicked "B" with a scowl.

"Let's just move on."

---

*A few minutes later…*

"These should be the last ones," he murmured, noticing "15/19" at the top of the screen.

[16. If you were born in the world of Berserk, would you…]

A. Choose to live as an existing character?

B. Create your own original character?

"I'm way too lazy to make an OC, so option A it is.

Let's pick someone random…"

He scrolled.

"Corkus should suffice."

Click.

[17. If the previous question was true, what weapon would you feel most comfortable using?]

A. Sword

B. Bow

C. Spear / Polearm

D. Daggers / Dual Weapons

E. Other

"Well, swords and daggers are overused, so… bow it is."

Click.

---

[18. If you could gain one unique ability, which would you choose?]

A. Mastery of weapons

B. Magic

C. Enhanced senses

D. Supernatural strength

E. Other

"Magic, obviously. Berserk barely explores it.

It'd be interesting to see what it can really do."

Click.

---

[19. Do you believe in Fate or Free Will?]

A. Everything is predetermined

B. We can shape our own destiny

C. Somewhere in between

"Finally," he sighed. "Well, I'm not a philosopher, but I'm somewhere in the middle. So…"

He selected "C" and clicked "Next."

--

[Thank you for completing the survey. Your answers have been noted.]

He yawned.

"Alright, time to go to slee—"

He stopped.

"…wait. Why do I feel… dizzy?"

His vision distorted, the room bending like melting wax.

His thoughts blurred.

Before he could understand what was happening, the world went black.

---

"Ugh…" he groaned, pushing himself off the ground. His head pounded, and the moment he opened his eyes he was filled with shock

Buildings were engulfed in flames.

Smoke blotted out the sky.

This was followed by a metallic stench of blood and ash in the atmosphere.

'Where am I?'

"What the hell is going on? The last thing I remember was sitting at my desk, taking that weird Berserk survey.

Now I'm standing in what looks like a war-torn medieval village"

'Did the new chapter mess me up so badly that I'm lucid dreaming in 4K quality?' He thought perplexed.

'Before he could process anything further, a sharp pain stabbed through his skull.

Gah—! What's happening!?"

He collapsed to his knees, clutching his head as memories that weren't his flooded into his mind.

Wait—no way. Is this real? I got reborn in Berserk?"

Pieces snapped together in his mind.

"Did that damn survey kill me last night!?"

He wanted to refuse but the smoke and fire burning his lungs told a different story

He looked down at his shaking hands, then around the burning ruins.

"Fuck!"

"In the memories that I saw, I also saw the name of the body that I'm now inhabiting

Which is Corkus"

"Don't tell me I'm *him* now."

"This is insane."

Panic pushed him to his feet. His eyes darted

around desperately for any sign, any proof—

A glint caught his attention.

A bow and a bundle of arrows lay half-buried under broken part of a wall, it was as if his survey answer had… manifested into the world.

** gulp**

He swallowed.

"Is this really my fate now? Being reborn as that ugly, annoying bastard—destined to die—in a world crawling with eldritch nightmares?"

As Corkus was contemplating life's biggest question like a great philosopher would, a shout tore through the burning street:

Quick! There's a survivor here!"
