PART 1:- THE FIRST MEETING
Ayesha tightened her shoelaces and stepped into the classroom for aerobics. The polished wooden floor reflected the sunlight streaming through the windows, and the familiar rhythm of music filled the room. Today felt different — the boys from the other class were practicing on the ground outside, and the teachers had kept them there while the girls did their warm-up in the classroom.
Sara was already there, chatting with her sister, Jannat. Both of them had that effortless way of taking charge — suggesting, correcting, directing — and yet Ayesha still considered Sara her best friend, trusting her advice and laughing at her jokes. Anaya, Jannat's best friend, leaned nearby, smiling at her friend's teasing remarks and nodding at her instructions. Ayesha couldn't help but notice how naturally they commanded the space around them, but she kept quiet, still following Sara's lead.
The music started, and the girls moved through their stretches and jumps. At first, Ayesha tried to focus entirely on the steps, but then her eyes wandered to the classroom door. The glass panel offered a clear view of the ground outside — where the boys were practicing.
And that's when she saw him.
Her heart skipped a beat. She didn't know his name, hadn't heard about him before, and had no reason to notice anyone. But something about the way he moved, calm and confident in the middle of the group, made her pulse race. Her stomach twisted nervously, and for a few seconds, she couldn't look away.
Sara noticed her glance but said nothing this time, just continued chatting with Jannat. Ayesha forced herself to focus on her movements again, but her eyes kept drifting back to him. Among more than twenty boys, her gaze returned only to him.
When the girls requested the teacher to go outside, they finally stepped onto the ground. And this time, he was standing by the doorway, watching them. The flutter in her chest returned, stronger than before.
The girls started their practice in a corner of the ground, observing but not interfering. Ayesha's eyes searched for him compulsively, and then it happened. His shoes lay right in front of her. He bent down, picked them up, glanced up for just a second, and stood upright. That single, fleeting glance sent her heart racing uncontrollably.
All around, boys continued to move, talk, and laugh, but Ayesha's attention refused to leave him. She didn't know anything about him, and yet, her pulse thumped in a way it never had before.
For the first time, Ayesha realized that there were feelings she didn't understand yet, feelings that had just been planted and would grow in ways she couldn't anticipate.
