This was a large, fast-flowing river; the water was so clear that the bottom was visible, reflecting the shimmering sunlight. A herd of mountain goats drinking by the riverbank was startled by a massive black shadow falling from the sky. The entire herd panicked, bleating loudly as they leaped up the rocky mountain.
They climbed the cliffs with natural ease, their hooves gripping tightly onto even the tiniest ridges. On steep rocks that were almost vertical, they could still jump about as agilely as if walking on flat ground, reaching high ground in the blink of an eye.
Rowan did not let the delicious meal delivered right to his mouth escape; the gnawing hunger in his stomach rose powerfully.
