Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: The Rumbling (II)

The battle field had undergone a change like no other. The border soldiers were on the ground clutching their heads in pain, a few had already lost their souls. Their bodies falling to the blood soaked ground and shattering like weathered bark.

The commanders stood still in their places silently as the howling winds picked up their hair.

They looked on to his back, a silent trust of this commander. Their lives were in his hands.

Cairo raised his hands in the air; red barriers condensed around the soldiers bodies. The wailing seized immediately, the soldier's stood to their feet, their faces a few shades paler.

The commander moved forward slowly, his steps silent in the wind. Caiser raising his arm, signaling a retreat. The soldiers fell backwards like tidal waves, their formation falling apart for a moment before the order returned.

The soldiers from the other side were amazed by the sudden retreat, but they were even more cautious. 'was it time for the commanders to fight?'

Cairo's steps didn't halt even as the multitude of soldiers flickered past. He stood a couple hundred meters away from the border army. His solemn back etched deeply into their memory.

Raising his head, he swept his gaze across the field, the mass of darkness covering the mouth of the now wrecked forest. His lips curved up in a mocking smile.

'How foolish, these fiends'

His beautiful phoenix eyes glowed a deep red as his eyes traced the movements of the dark army, their army had since retreated. Their goal to wipe out the border army with the previous attack- or perhaps just weaken them.

Cairo's glowing red eyes sent deep shivers down the dark commander's spines. Their instincts screaming to flee.

He bent his legs, the muscles tensing, jumping high into the sky. Blood red energy condensed beneath his feet, keeping him up high. His robes fluttered as he looked down at the battlefield. Disdain rose from the depths of his heart. A cold disregard and loathing that he couldn't fathom.

The runes on his armor shone a dark light as his figure expanded several times larger. Feathers covered his giant body, a blazing heat burned steadily on the blood red feathers. No one had seen this creature in ages. A devil, no one dared to offend.

He was the real lord of the underworld. A rakshasa only meant for slaughter.

Something so noble intertwined with the filth of hell. The Emperor in his primal form. The only blood phoenix in Sivennia.

The burning bird flew across the blood red skies. a sight so sinister, the darkness before them seemed pale in comparison.

The border army dropped on their knees, a subconscious reaction buried deep in their blood.

"We greet his majesty"

The volume shook the skies. The army of the surviving 500,000 greeted their sovereign with deep reverence.

Cairo-Alleon screeched loudly as his wings raised violent gale. His primal gaze swept across the field, settling on the dark army below. His eyes burned with fury like never before.

Another screech

Storms of blood descended on the field, the dark army not given even a second of rest.

The swirling pools of blood swept across the dark masses, destruction in its wake. Alleon's heavy gaze did not lighten. his wings glowed a faint black light as the fire on his feathers turned a deep shade of black. His darkness seemed even heavier than the dark army.

Sabers of dark fire covered the sky over the dark army, their blades gleaming with a cruel light. He flapped his wings heavily, a gale pushing the sabers forward at a speed even the commanders of both sides couldn't detect. The soldiers were struck from dead angles, thousands lay dead on the field from both attacks. Three commanders had been impaled through their chests, their lifeforces a sacrifice to appease nature.

Though insignificant, they were still commanders.

The hunched commander stood amidst a formation; a group of about a hundred soldiers. The giant phoenix set his gaze on the shivering commander.

His fiery red eyes glowed with amusement, he screeched lightly. A silent blood blade sped towards the center of the formation, undetected till the hunched grandpa fell face first. His eyes wide open, not knowing how he died.

The soldiers panicked, their faces paling in fear. The old man had been killed without a sound, right under their noses. They were struck dumb.

Alleon was pleased with his service. Whittling down the dark soldiers numbers were enough for him. The rest would be left to the rest of the army. He wasn't the only one furious.

*********

The blood red phoenix flew deep into the sky, parting the clouds. His screeches sent deep fear into the hearts of everyone present on the field. The red sky shone with a fiery red light, like the birth of impending doom.

Then the light vanished, like it was never there before.

Alleon reappeared beside caiser and Kaizan. The commanders immediately bowing in reverence.

He nodded at the two commanders, his meaning clear. He retreated steadily to the rear. His intention to leave the rest to them glaring.

The soldiers bowed their heads. Their fury and determination rising. Their bloodlines had been riled to stupefaction. This battle had come to a close.

The two commanders smiled. The deep fury in their eyes powering their aura's.

They raised their hand and voices in unison.

"Attack"

The battle had resumed, no longer just a one sided massacre.

The commanders joined the fray as well. Their battle intent and blood lust raising the morale of the whole army. What fear! They were fiends themselves.

Brenton clashed with the dragon commander, his long nails ripping through air as Caisar dodged every strike, a counterattack seemed to not be on his agenda.

He dodged every critical strike when it was only centimeters away from his body. He was clearly toying with the demon commander. His mocking smile never left his lips. His gaze didn't seem to regard him at all.

Brenton grew frustrated as he threw his trump cards at the commander one after the other, but drew no blood- not even a hit.

Caiser kept his leisurely pace till he grew bored. He swiped a claw at the demon's torso, tearing a huge chunk of flesh away. Blood coated his arms. Brenton howled, mania clouding his judgements. His attacks became all the more frantic. Frustration filling his heart. This battle hadn't been right from the start.

He launched himself at the dragon commander, evident recklessness.

On getting close, he changed the trajectory of his claws as he struck the ground below caiser's feet. Wet soil and stone debris flew all over causing Caiser to slightly move back. Brenton took this opportunity to widen the distance between them.

He placed his palm over his bleeding abdomen, the sight of the blood breaking his little reason. He bit a finger on his free hand, the blood floating up as strange runes began to burn around him. The runes glowed slightly before etching themselves on his skin. He grunted slightly as pain rippled through his being, the bleeding torso glowed a faint blue, as the bleeding ceased.

Horns grew from the sides of his head – these ones larger than before. A mark, the shape of a scale glowed on his forehead. His aura grew denser.

Caiser furrowed his brows for a split second before his face returned to its previous calm.

There was no other dramatic display. The transformation had come to an end as a dark golden sphere stuck out from the demon's head. His red eyes were wide open. The thought of Caiser having a weapon had never crossed his mind. The man had moved around with his gauntlets since his name had been known.

He had dropped his weapon, thinking he could deal with him with his fists alone. Break the brawlers pride. His arrogance though had ended him a little faster than anticipated.

He dropped to his knees, the light in his eyes returning to the dull grey of a corpse. Brenton was dead. He had no chance to even showcase his last trump card, his transformation wasn't even allowed to be completed.

Caiser had grown too bored watching him grow larger horns.

This little bout had ended in but a few minutes.
