Chapter 4 - The Day Before

# Chapter 2: Six Months of Change

[Note: I did my research on Naruto verse but I am not a perfect person there are probably many things that might be wrong,so if I miss something important,or if any information is wrong I just want to apologise]

The Day Before

**Year 46, Six Months Later - Konoha Orphanage**

"Kazuki-kun, could you come to my office please?"

Yuki-san's voice was gentle but carried the weight of something important. Kazuki looked up from the book he'd been reading—a basic history text about the founding of Konoha—and nodded.

"Yes, Yuki-san."

He marked his page carefully and set the book aside, ignoring the curious looks from the other children. Over the past six months, they'd grown used to seeing Kazuki with his nose buried in books, his quiet demeanor a stark contrast to the energetic five-year-old he'd been before his birthday.

The other children had noticed the change, of course. How could they not?

Kazuki followed the matron through the familiar hallways of the orphanage, his footsteps barely making a sound. That was another change—he'd learned to walk more quietly, more deliberately. Everything he did now had purpose behind it.

*Six months,* he thought. *Six months since I woke up with my memories. Tomorrow I start at the Academy.*

**[Confirmed. Academy entrance ceremony scheduled for tomorrow morning, 0800 hours. Host age: 5 years, 6 months, 3 days. Physical condition: Optimal. Mental state: Stable. Chakra capacity: 15 units (increased from 8 units).]**

*Thanks, Jarvis.*

**[Acknowledged. This unit continues to find the designation 'Jarvis' unnecessary but will comply with user preference.]**

Kazuki suppressed a smile. Naming the AI Chip "Jarvis" had been a whim—a reference to Iron Man's AI assistant from his previous life. When he'd suggested it to the Chip, he'd joked that at least Disney couldn't sue him for copyright infringement in a different universe.

The Chip hadn't understood the humor, but it had accepted the designation.

Yuki-san's office was small and tidy, with a simple desk, filing cabinets, and a window overlooking the courtyard. She gestured for Kazuki to sit in the chair across from her desk, then settled into her own seat with a soft sigh.

"Kazuki-kun," she began, her weathered hands folding on the desk. "Tomorrow you begin your training at the Academy. Congratulations. Not every child gets this opportunity."

"Thank you, Yuki-san."

"Because you'll be entering the shinobi program, there are some changes we need to discuss." She pulled out a folder from her desk drawer. "As you know, orphans who become ninja are given certain benefits by the village. One of those benefits is housing."

Kazuki's attention sharpened. He'd known this was coming—had prepared for it, in fact—but hearing it confirmed was different.

"Your parents," Yuki-san continued, her voice careful, "left behind a small house in the civilian district. It's been maintained by the village while you were too young to claim it. But now that you're entering the Academy, the house becomes yours. You'll need to move out of the orphanage within the next few days."

*My parents.* The thought was strange. He had memories of them from his early childhood—vague impressions of warmth, of being held, of lullabies. They'd died when he was two, casualties of a border skirmish during the Second Shinobi War. He'd been too young to remember them clearly.

But Kazuki Tanaka—the otaku from Japan—had no emotional connection to these people. They were strangers whose son he now inhabited.

"I understand," Kazuki said quietly. "When should I move?"

"Tomorrow evening, after your first day at the Academy. I'll have one of the staff help you gather your belongings and show you to the house. It's not large, but it's yours." Yuki-san's expression softened. "You've become quite self-sufficient these past months, Kazuki-kun. I think you'll do well living on your own. But remember—if you need anything, the orphanage is always here."

"Thank you, Yuki-san. For everything."

The older woman smiled, though there was sadness in her eyes. "You've changed so much since your birthday. You used to be such a cheerful, energetic child. Now you're always reading, always training, always... thinking. I worry sometimes that you've grown up too fast."

Kazuki felt a pang of guilt. She wasn't wrong. The five-year-old Kazuki who'd laughed and played without a care had been replaced by someone who carried the weight of two lifetimes and the knowledge of tragedies to come.

"I just want to be strong enough to protect people," Kazuki said, and it was the truth. "So no more orphans have to lose their parents."

Yuki-san's eyes glistened slightly. She reached across the desk and squeezed his small hand.

"You have a good heart, Kazuki-kun. Don't lose that when you become a shinobi."

Flashback - The First Month

*Six months earlier...*

The first month after awakening his memories had been the hardest.

Kazuki had thrown himself into training with an intensity that bordered on obsession. Every spare moment was spent on something productive—reading, exercising, meditating, practicing chakra control.

The leaf concentration exercise had been his first major milestone.

He'd found the leaf in the garden, a simple green leaf from the vegetable plants. Following the instructions from his meta-knowledge and Jarvis's analytical optimization, he'd sat for hours trying to stick it to his forehead using chakra alone.

*Day 1: Failed. Leaf falls immediately.*

**[Analysis: Host is releasing too much chakra. Recommend reducing output by approximately 73%.]**

*Day 3: Leaf sticks for 2 seconds before falling.*

**[Progress noted. Chakra output more controlled. Continue current method.]**

*Day 7: Leaf sticks for 30 seconds. Can maintain while breathing normally.*

**[Significant improvement. Host has achieved basic chakra emission control. Recommend advancing to maintaining adhesion while moving.]**

*Day 12: Can walk around with leaf on forehead. Stays attached even when jumping.*

**[First stage of chakra control achieved. Host may now proceed to multiple simultaneous emission points.]**

The next challenge had been sticking multiple leaves to different parts of his body—forehead, both palms, both feet. It required splitting his attention and controlling chakra flow to five different points simultaneously.

*Day 20: Can maintain two leaves (forehead and right palm).*

*Day 28: Four leaves successfully maintained. Fifth leaf (left foot) keeps falling.*

*Day 35: All five leaves maintained while walking. Duration: 10 minutes before mental fatigue.*

**[Excellent progress. Host's chakra control has improved significantly. Current assessment: Upper-civilian level. Approaching low-genin level control.]**

But Kazuki hadn't stopped there. He'd pushed further, adding more leaves, increasing duration, maintaining control while doing other tasks—reading, eating, even sleeping.

By the end of the first month, he could maintain eight leaves on various body parts for over an hour without significant strain.

**[Assessment update: Host has achieved chakra control equivalent to Academy graduate level. This is unusual for age and experience. Recommend proceeding to tree-walking exercise.]**

---

Flashback - The Secret Training

Tree-walking had to be done in secret.

Kazuki couldn't practice it in the orphanage courtyard—too many eyes, too many questions. A five-year-old walking up walls would attract exactly the kind of attention he wanted to avoid.

So he'd waited until night.

The first time had been terrifying. Sneaking out of the barracks after midnight, careful not to wake Kenji or the others. Slipping through the orphanage halls like a ghost, avoiding the creaky floorboards he'd memorized over weeks of observation. Out the window, into the garden, over the fence into the deserted streets of Konoha.

*This is insane,* he'd thought, his heart pounding as he navigated the nighttime village. *If I get caught, they'll think I'm a runaway or worse.*

**[Probability of detection: 8.3%. Village patrols are concentrated in commercial and administrative districts. Civilian residential areas have minimal nighttime surveillance.]**

Jarvis had mapped the patrol routes by analyzing the patterns Kazuki observed during the day. The AI had calculated the safest times and routes for his secret training sessions.

He'd found a cluster of trees in a secluded area near the village wall—far from the main roads, hidden from casual observation. Perfect for practice.

The tree-walking exercise required channeling chakra to his feet and using it to stick to the vertical surface. Too little chakra and he'd slip. Too much and the bark would crack, sending him tumbling.

*First attempt: Fell after three steps.*

**[Analysis: Chakra output inconsistent. Right foot: 87% optimal. Left foot: 134% optimal. Recommend focusing on equilibrium between feet.]**

*Tenth attempt: Made it halfway up before the bark cracked under left foot.*

**[Improvement noted. Recommend reducing left foot output by 15%.]**

*Thirtieth attempt: Reached the top. Lost balance, fell backward. Minor bruises sustained.*

**[Success! Host has achieved basic tree-walking capability. Recording optimal chakra levels for future reference. Recommend practicing descent control.]**

Night after night, Kazuki returned to those trees. His body accumulated small bruises and scrapes that he hid under his clothes. His sleep schedule became erratic—two hours of nighttime training, then back to the orphanage before dawn, then a full day of normal activities.

It should have been exhausting. His five-year-old body should have collapsed from the strain.

But Jarvis helped him optimize everything—sleep cycles, nutrition, recovery time. The AI calculated exactly how much he could push himself before risking injury or detection.

*Month 2: Can walk up trees consistently. Beginning to practice combat movement on vertical surfaces.*

*Month 3: Can run up trees. Working on jumping between trees while maintaining chakra adhesion.*

*Month 4: Tree-walking mastered. Beginning water-walking practice at small pond outside village.*

**[Warning: Water-walking exercise significantly more difficult than tree-walking. Estimated time to basic competency: 2-3 months with current training intensity.]**

Kazuki had smiled in the darkness, standing on the surface of the pond with water lapping at his chakra-infused feet.

*Good. I want it to be difficult. Easy victories don't make you strong.*

Flashback - Language and Knowledge

The books had been easier to acquire than the secret training spots.

Konoha had public libraries, and even orphans were allowed to borrow books. Kazuki had devoured them—histories, chakra theory, basic ninja techniques, village geography, political structures.

His reading level had skyrocketed from basic children's books to Academy-level texts in just two months.

**[Language proficiency update: Japanese reading comprehension: 94%. Writing skill: 87%. Host can now read and write at level equivalent to average 10-year-old.]**

*Not good enough,* Kazuki had thought, practicing kanji characters late at night by candlelight. *I need to be able to read advanced scrolls, decipher sealing formulas, understand medical texts.*

**[Estimated time to advanced literacy: 8-12 months with current study habits.]**

The other children had noticed his constant reading. Kenji had asked about it once.

"Why do you read so much, Kazuki? Don't you want to play?"

Kazuki had looked up from his book—a text on basic chakra theory—and forced a smile.

"I like learning. Besides, if I want to be a good ninja, I need to know stuff, right?"

"I guess. But you're only five. You have time to learn when you get to the Academy."

*No, I don't,* Kazuki had thought but didn't say. *The Second Shinobi War is still going on. The Academy is pushing students through faster than normal. I need every advantage I can get.*

But he'd just shrugged and returned to his book.

That had become his pattern. Friendly but distant. Polite but reserved. He'd answer questions when asked, help with chores, join meals—but he'd stopped seeking out social interaction the way the old five-year-old Kazuki had.

It hurt, sometimes. Seeing Kenji's confused looks when Kazuki declined invitations to play. Watching Hana retreat further into her shell because she'd lost her quiet companion who used to sit with her in comfortable silence.

But Kazuki couldn't afford attachments. Not like that.

He was going to become a shinobi. He was going to stand on battlefields. He was going to change canon events in ways that might put him in danger.

The other orphans were going to stay civilians, or if they entered the Academy, they'd likely remain genin or chunin. They'd have normal lives, relatively speaking.

Kazuki was going to be different. He had to be.

And he didn't want them feeling jealous when he inevitably progressed faster than normal. Didn't want them feeling left behind when he made connections with clan kids and important people.

Better to create distance now, before the gap became too wide to bridge.

*It's lonely,* he'd admitted to himself one night, lying awake in the barracks. *Being the only one who knows what's coming. The only one who remembers being someone else.*

**[Observation: Social isolation may impact long-term mental health. Recommendation: Maintain at least one meaningful relationship to preserve emotional stability.]**

*I'll make friends at the Academy,* Kazuki had promised himself. *Friends who can keep up. Friends who won't hold me back or be left behind.*

Friends like Minato. Like Kushina. Like the others of his generation who'd become legends.

Flashback - Exploring Konoha

The village tour had happened on a sunny afternoon in his third month of training.

Yuki-san had given him permission to explore the village on his own—a privilege granted to older orphans who'd proven themselves responsible. At five and a half years old, Kazuki was technically too young for such freedom.

But he'd been so mature lately, so reliable, that Yuki-san had made an exception.

Kazuki had walked through Konoha with wide eyes, seeing it properly for the first time with his adult consciousness fully aware.

The village was beautiful.

Red-roofed buildings clustered together, separated by tree-lined streets. Shops sold everything from weapons to vegetables. The smell of ramen drifted from restaurants. Ninja in green vests leaped across rooftops. Civilians went about their business, comfortable and safe behind the village walls.

This was Konohagakure. The Village Hidden in the Leaves. Home to the Will of Fire.

Kazuki had made his way to the most iconic locations, tourist destinations for the Naruto fan he'd been in his previous life.

**The Hokage Monument** - Four faces carved into the mountainside. Hashirama, Tobirama, Hiruzen, and the space where Minato's face would eventually be carved. Kazuki had stood at the base, craning his neck to look up at those massive stone visages.

*Hiruzen is Hokage now,* he'd thought. *The Third. The Professor. The God of Shinobi. One of the strongest ninja in the world, and he's governing this village right now, somewhere in that tower.*

**[Hokage Tower located 2.3 kilometers northeast of current position. Third Hokage Sarutobi Hiruzen age: 38 years old. Active administration ongoing.]**

**Training Grounds** - There were dozens scattered throughout the village, but Kazuki had been most interested in seeing the famous ones. Training Ground 3, where Team 7 would eventually train. Training Ground 7, where Might Guy pushed himself to his limits.

They'd all been occupied by various teams, ninja practicing their techniques, sparring, running drills. Kazuki had watched from a distance, cataloging techniques, observing forms, letting Jarvis record everything for future analysis.

**[Recording complete. 47 distinct techniques observed. 12 identifiable as standard Academy jutsu. 23 appear to be chakra enhancement methods. 8 elemental techniques. 4 unidentified.]**

**The Memorial Stone** - This had been harder to find, tucked away in a quiet corner of the village. The stone monument where the names of fallen ninja were carved.

Kazuki had stood before it for a long time, reading the names. So many names. Hundreds of them. Maybe thousands. Each one a person who'd died serving the village.

Some of those names he'd known from his meta-knowledge. Others were unknown—background characters, civilians-turned-ninja, people whose stories were never told in the manga or anime.

*They all died,* Kazuki had thought, his chest tight. *For the village. For their comrades. For the Will of Fire.*

*And more will die. Unless I can change things.*

**The Valley of the End** - This required leaving the village proper, but Kazuki had made the journey anyway. It took him most of the afternoon to reach the iconic waterfall where Madara and Hashirama's statues faced each other, hands locked in the seal of confrontation.

Standing between those massive statues, feeling the spray from the waterfall, Kazuki had felt incredibly small.

*This is where it all began,* he'd thought. *The conflict between Uchiha and Senju. Between power and compassion. This is where Naruto and Sasuke will eventually fight too.*

*But maybe, if I play this right, that final battle won't have to happen.*

**[Location data recorded. Geographical features analyzed. Strategic value: Minimal for current objectives. Historical significance: Maximum.]**

Kazuki had returned to the orphanage that evening exhausted but satisfied. He'd seen Konoha. Really seen it. Not as a setting in an anime, but as a real place where real people lived and died.

It made everything more real. More immediate.

Present Day - The Quiet Kid

Back in Yuki-san's office, Kazuki realized she was still watching him with those concerned, maternal eyes.

"You're so serious now, Kazuki-kun," she said softly. "Like you're carrying the weight of the world on your small shoulders."

*You have no idea,* Kazuki thought.

Out loud, he said, "I just want to be ready. The Academy is important. I can't fail."

"You won't fail. You're one of the most prepared children I've ever seen enter the program." Yuki-san stood, moving around the desk to place a hand on his shoulder. "But don't forget to be a child sometimes too. You're only five years old."

Five years old in body. Twenty-nine years old in cumulative experience. Carrying knowledge of a future that might or might not come to pass.

"I'll try, Yuki-san."

She didn't look convinced, but she smiled anyway. "Go on. Pack your things. Tomorrow is a big day."

Kazuki bowed respectfully and left the office. In the hallway, he paused, looking back at the orphanage that had been his home for five years—his entire life in this world.

Tomorrow, everything would change.

Tomorrow, he'd enter the Academy.

Tomorrow, he'd take his first real step toward changing the future.

*Ready or not,* Kazuki thought, clenching his small fists, *here I come.*

**[User status update: Chakra capacity: 15 units. Chakra control: 2nd stage mastered (tree-walking). Literacy: Advanced. Physical conditioning: Above average for age. Mental state: Determined. Assessment: Host is adequately prepared for Academy entrance. Probability of successful admission: 100%.]**

*Thanks, Jarvis. Let's do this.*

**[Affirmative. Tomorrow, we begin changing the timeline.]**
