Chapter 4 - Distribution of Remuneration

A few minutes later, a truck arrived.

This was the truck Hayakawa Aki had called to transport the Devil's corpse; after all, they couldn't drag such a heavy Devil's corpse away by hand.

Otonashi Chiya did have a method: he could use his Kamui to absorb the Devil's corpse into his kamui space (an alternate dimension) and then transfer the corpse out at the Civilian Devil Hunters' base.

But there was no need for that; the side effects of Kamui were too great, and using it just to move a Devil's corpse would be overkill.

Along with the truck came two police cars, responsible for managing the scene; otherwise, the large amount of blood under the bridge, if discovered by unsuspecting people, would certainly cause trouble.

They, along with the truck driver and two police officers, entered the bridge underpass and, with the help of flashlights and headlamps, saw the full extent of the Devil's corpse.

The truck driver exclaimed, "Wow... Hayakawa, the Devil you hunted this time is no ordinary one, impressive, impressive!"

He had been doing this kind of work for many years, specifically helping Devil Hunters transport Devil corpses, so he had seen many Devils and had no fear of Devil corpses; even the two police officers next to him were not as calm as he was.

He knew it was a very troublesome Devil just by looking at its hard carapace and heavy pincers, and he never expected Hayakawa Aki could even hunt such a Devil.

"No, he killed it; it had little to do with me."

Hayakawa Aki shook his head and spoke truthfully.

He knew very well that he hadn't been much help just now; Otonashi was basically confronting the Crayfish Devil head-on.

Although he could kill it if he wanted to, he would definitely have to use the power of the Curse Devil...

"He...?"

Only then did the truck driver look at Otonashi Chiya, who was beside Hayakawa Aki, in surprise.

When he first saw the young man, he felt he was a stranger, thinking he was a newcomer who had just become a Civilian Devil Hunter, and besides his rather unique eyes, the simple smile on his face gave people a harmless feeling. His first impression made it impossible to imagine him as a ruthless person.

He never expected this young man to be so fierce?

The two police officers also looked at Otonashi Chiya with surprised eyes, sighing inwardly that more and more minors were becoming Devil Hunters nowadays.

However, although they were unwilling to pay the price to sign a contract with a Devil, they would not have any prejudice against Devil Hunters, after all, only Devil Hunters could hunt Devils and protect people from Devil harm.

Otonashi Chiya smiled without speaking; he didn't like to brag about himself.

Subsequently, the truck driver called several people to help move the Devil's corpse into the truck bed using tools, and special measures were used to minimize the odor emanating from the Devil's corpse, so as not to affect passersby during transport.

Otonashi Chiya and Hayakawa Aki, on the other hand, rode in a police car, which took them to the Civilian Devil Hunters' base.

The truck transporting the Devil's corpse arrived at the underground garage of the Civilian Devil Hunters' base at roughly the same time, making it convenient for handover with the Civilian Devil Hunters' base in the underground garage.

That is, the Civilian Devil Hunters' base would take over the Crayfish Devil's corpse, because the client who issued the commission mainly wanted the Devil's corpse.

At this moment, Otonashi Chiya and Hayakawa Aki were sitting on chairs at the base's front desk.

"Sirs, we have received the Devil's corpse. Please wait patiently while we inspect it. Once confirmed, we will settle the commission's reward for you."

The female staff member at the front desk said to them with a smile.

Hayakawa Aki remained silent.

Otonashi Chiya nodded slightly, "Alright."

"Speaking of which, the young man next to Aki-kun is..."

At this moment, the female staff member spoke again.

This young woman seemed quite familiar with Hayakawa Aki, even calling him by his given name.

However, before she could finish her sentence, Hayakawa Aki responded coldly, "Just a temporary partner."

Otonashi Chiya could tell at a glance that this young woman had some interest in Hayakawa Aki, but at this time, Hayakawa Aki was still burdened by the deep-seated hatred of his family's murder and had no thoughts of romance.

"Eh? I thought Hayakawa-kun finally had a friend, and a handsome young man at that."

Even though Hayakawa Aki's attitude was cold, the young woman still showed no signs of dissatisfaction.

The young woman wasn't deliberately flattering him; Otonashi Chiya's appearance was indeed not bad.

His handsome features, coupled with a gentle and innocent smile, gave people a sense of approachability, and his Kamui-shaped Mangekyo Sharingan added a touch of mystery to him.

Hayakawa Aki simply refused to answer anymore; at this moment, he didn't want to get too close to anyone; his heart was only set on revenge.

A while later, the base confirmed that there were no issues with the Crayfish Devil's corpse.

Four hundred thousand in cash was directly given to Otonashi Chiya and Hayakawa Aki; this was the reward for the commission.

The largest denomination of Japanese Yen is ten thousand, so four hundred thousand Japanese Yen is actually forty banknotes.

The client spending so much money to issue this commission was, of course, profitable, for example, by selling the Devil's corpse on the black market. A Devil's corpse could sell for at least several hundred thousand, or even over a million Japanese Yen; the Crayfish Devil would probably sell for around five to six hundred thousand.

The client earns this price difference, providing information related to Devils and asking Devil Hunters to do the work.

"Oh? I just noticed Hayakawa Aki and that strange young man are back. It looks like they completed the commission?"

"Probably. I remember the commission's reward was forty thousand. A target of that caliber must not be weak. Hayakawa Aki, that kid, is indeed strong."

"..."

People at the base started discussing again.

At this moment, Otonashi Chiya and Hayakawa Aki were distributing the reward. Otonashi Chiya's idea was to divide it equally, giving twenty banknotes to Hayakawa Aki.

But Hayakawa Aki immediately refused, "No, I didn't do much. You take all of it."

"Why be so particular about killing a Devil? Just take it."

Otonashi Chiya didn't argue with Hayakawa Aki and directly forced the two hundred thousand Japanese Yen into Hayakawa Aki's hand.

He himself didn't like to haggle over such things, and Hayakawa Aki was also someone he had admired before.

If he really had to be particular about it, he would have to calculate exactly what percentage of the credit he and Hayakawa Aki each contributed, and then distribute the reward based on those percentages, which would be too troublesome, and he was too lazy to do it.

"..."

Hayakawa Aki had no choice but to accept it.

At the same time, he kept Otonashi Chiya in mind.

"This collaboration was quite enjoyable. Let's work together again if there's an opportunity."

Otonashi Chiya understood Hayakawa Aki's thoughts, only wanting a temporary partner, so he proactively said this, and Hayakawa Aki would not make things difficult.

"Mm."

Hayakawa Aki nodded, thinking that this was good too.

Hearing this conversation between Otonashi Chiya and Hayakawa Aki, many people around were astonished.

They had originally thought that Hayakawa Aki had completed the commission with his excellent strength, but unexpectedly, it was quite the opposite: the young man who seemed like a newcomer was actually stronger than Hayakawa Aki?

And since this young man wasn't continuing to partner with Hayakawa Aki, some people immediately had ideas and wanted to invite this young man to join their team.
