When we finally reached the village, twilight had already claimed the sky. The relentless rain continued its assault, a bone-chilling mist that penetrated even my supernatural endurance.
Javier maintained his distance several steps behind me, his hood pulled down to shadow his features. Under the flickering glow of the street lamps, his complexion appeared ghostly pale, yet he offered no complaints. He never did. Through our developing bond, I could sense the whisper of his suffering, carefully masked but unmistakably present.
