Helena's POV
The thunderous cascade of water swallows every sound except the wild hammering of my heart. My lungs burn from the desperate sprint, forcing harsh gasps from my throat as I try to ignore how Victor's solid frame presses against me.
"Trapped now, Little Zoey," he murmurs, his voice like dark silk sliding over gravel. "Though I suspect you enjoy the chase."
Every rational thought screams at me to shove him away, to create distance between us. Instead, I remain frozen, waiting to see what he'll do next. Without warning, he turns me in his embrace, pinning me against the slick stone wall behind the falls. His eyes gleam with an otherworldly light, not the familiar black but a smoldering crimson that speaks of something far more dangerous than human desire.
The sight should terrify me. Instead, something deep in my chest pulls me toward that forbidden flame.
"You hunted me for entertainment?" The words escape on a shaky exhale.
