The stadium lights blazed overhead, bathing the field in that familiar golden radiance that made every Friday night feel like pure magic. Adrenaline still coursed through my veins from our victory, teammates whooping and celebrating around me as the crowd's thunderous cheers filled the night air.
This was it. This was what we'd worked for all season.
The kind of win that would be talked about for years. A nail-biter that came down to the final play, with me throwing the game-winning touchdown as time expired. The stadium had erupted. My teammates had lifted me up like I was some kind of hero.
I should have been flying high right now. This was every quarterback's dream come true.
But all of that disappeared the moment I caught sight of something that made my blood turn to ice.
Ezekiel. My best friend. My teammate. The guy I trusted more than anyone else on this planet.
