Leonardo's POV
"Last time I asked about that isolated house behind your family's garden—remember what you told me?"
"You claimed it housed some deranged servant, but curiosity got the better of me today. Want to know what I discovered?"
"What?"
My chest tightened, dreading whatever revelation was coming.
"A woman. Bound in chains!"
"I spoke with her. She's completely lucid."
"She even said her name was Eleanore!"
"That's impossible!"
I couldn't process this. "Eleanore shouldn't be there. Then who's been sending those postcards..."
"I was skeptical too, but she revealed a birthmark on her neck—exactly matching your description. She pleaded with me to help her escape!"
The words hit me like a physical blow. My fists clenched involuntarily.
"Eleanore, imprisoned in the Nelson estate? Who would do such a thing?"
"I'm not certain, but I witnessed Charlie coming and going, attending to her needs."
"Charlie has to be involved. He's loyal to the old woman."
