Veronica's POV
"Altair?"
Spotting Altair in my path, I questioned him. "What brings you here?"
His hands remained clasped behind his back as his gaze fixed on my face with unmistakable intensity. "I came to wait for you."
The hunger in his stare made my skin crawl. "Wait for what exactly? Do you need something?"
"I brought you a gift. What do you think?"
He produced a velvet jewelry box, revealing an obviously expensive necklace nestled inside.
I barely glanced at it before letting out a dry laugh. "You've got the wrong person. Shouldn't your wife be receiving this?"
"I want you to have it. This necklace was made for you—only you deserve to wear it."
Altair pushed the gift toward me, but I stepped back. "I can't take this. I don't accept presents without reason. More importantly, I'm Leonardo's wife."
