The people closest to me were Rosalind, Adrian, and Ryan. But they were all my trusted subordinates, making betrayal unlikely from their end.
So who could it be?
I had no leads and would need to investigate discreetly once I got back.
After hours on the road, I drove Leonardo back to Aurelia City.
During the trip, we maintained easy conversation, mainly about my mother's case. Leonardo shared plenty of personal observations, and his insights made real sense.
Finally, he told me, "Your mother's missing, and mine's gone too. I'd say we're both dealing with similar heartbreak."
"We're divorced, so watch your language!" I shot back quickly.
Leonardo brushed off my correction and pressed his advantage. "Veronica, what about we strike a deal?"
"A deal?" I arched an eyebrow.
"Let's team up to find our mothers and nail the real villain. Once we clear everything up, will you marry me? How does that sound?"
