I just got off the phone with Jade. She is skipping school again. For the third time. I tossed my phone onto my dresser and rubbed my temples. This is becoming a habit, and it is not a good one.
I checked our group chat. She has not told anyone else she is not coming. She told me first because I am the one who drives her. I scanned the other messages. Nadia is talking about some boys' club idea. Rose is working on a logo. I shoved my phone into my bag and went back to doing my makeup. If Jade is not going, then I am stuck. My dad is busy. I have not seen Anderson yet, and I do not want to ask him for a ride. I do not want to move too fast. Slow is better.
A knock on my bedroom door made me jump. I put my comb down. Another knock came, softer this time. I walked over and pulled the door open.
Anderson was standing there, his hand still up like he was about to knock again.
