Chapter 76: The Ancient Tomb Part 1

The stairs led into a much larger corridor, surrounded on both sides by massive statues over nine feet tall that were made of some black stone.

"What are those statues made of? They are the only thing in here that has not degraded over time," Harry commented.

The floor and walls of the tomb had almost returned to sand, but the statues still looked brand new.

"Obsidian, probably… there are still remnants of magic inside those things," V said.

As Harry walked through the corridor, he felt as if someone or something was watching his every move.

"V…"

"Be ready," the hat said.

Harry had reached the midsection of the corridor when he suddenly heard something behind him. He turned just in time to see a stone door moving to block the exit leading to the stairs he had used to get here.

A moment later, all twelve of the statues in the hallway began to move.

"Golems…" Harry saw the one next to him moving its arms and trying to grab him.

"Ushabti Golems," V corrected him. "I read about these constructs in an old magical manual from Egypt."

"I don't care about their name!" Harry used a pushing charm to move the golem away from him, and this one ended up falling back and hitting the wall, making the entire corridor tremble.

"Be careful! Those statues must weigh several tons. They could collapse the entire tunnel if they break these walls."

The tomb itself was already in a precarious shape due to the passage of time. It wouldn't take much to make the whole thing collapse.

Harry avoided being grabbed by another one, conjured a small spear, and flung it towards its head.

The spear moved as fast as a bullet and hit the golem right on its face, producing a loud clanking noise, as well as some sparks.

However, it did no visible damage to the statue.

"Damn, they are hard as steel." Harry shifted his eyes around, seeing that another of the statues had positioned itself behind him and was about to punch the back of his skull.

"Celeritas!" Harry enhanced his agility and speed before jumping above the golems.

His fingers, aimed at one of the constructs, produced some electrical sparks. "Fulgor!"

A bolt of lightning was fired at the head of a nearby golem.

This one was brought down by the sheer force of the impact and fell on its back, but once the smoke cleared up…

"Seriously? How can it withstand that? It was bloody lightning," Harry exclaimed.

"Resistant to physical attacks and elemental ones," V said. "And there are twelve of them…good luck."

"Fuck it." Harry tapped his feet and bolted towards the other side of the corridor. "Let's find a better place t—"

The exit closed shut before he could cross it. Now he was completely trapped in this corridor with the twelve statues.

"Mmm, we may be in a bit of trouble," V commented. "Got anything stronger than that lightning?"

"Sure, many things," Harry responded.

"Anything that wouldn't immediately collapse the tunnel and kill us?"

The golems walked towards him.

"Let me think…"

"Well, at least those things are slow," V tried to give him some encouragement.

But then two of the golems started to run.

"Oh… never mind. They aren't that slow," V added.

Harry stepped forward and made a cutting motion with his right hand while a baleful aura covered his arm. "Divulsa!"

A blade made of a nasty purple energy flew at the golem on the right and cut it across its chest.

At first, the spell didn't seem to produce more than a tiny cut, but the purple energy remained attached to the wound and began to spread while producing thick smoke.

With his other hand, Harry aimed at the other golem. "Hexolvo Horrivilis!" A yellow orb appeared out of thin air and flew at its target.

The yellow sphere cracked on impact, releasing the liquid trapped inside, and it immediately covered the upper torso of the construct.

"A corrosive curse and a sulfuric acid conjuration," V noted.

His spells seemed to be working, and the bodies of the statues were dissolving, but the process was slow, and it did not stop them from moving.

He made a circular motion with his hand. "Gate."

A black portal opened in front of him, and another one appeared on the other side of the hallway.

Harry reappeared away from the golems and tapped on the enchantment of his glasses. "Mmm…" His eyes narrowed as he tried to find something.

"Need some help?" V asked as the golems turned around to continue their chase.

"No… I found it." Harry spotted something shining on the chest of one of the statues.

It was a red gem and had become exposed after half of the golem's chest was dissolved away.

"That's where their core is located. I just have to take it out, and the golems will no longer be able to move." Harry focused on the gem of the golem and used his magic to pull as hard as he could. "Accio!"

He brought his hand back, and the golem was propelled forward, clashing against its companions.

When it hit the ground, the gem came loose and quickly flew at Harry, who grasped it in his hand. "One down… eleven more to go." He stored the gem in his pocket.

"Collecting souvenirs already?" V asked.

"Isn't that what we came here for? These gems aren't arkstones, but they were able to hold power for thousands of years, so… I'm taking them all with me."

An idea was already running through his mind. With their resistance, these constructs would make for excellent guards for the Weasley house.

But before he could do that, he would need to tear them apart.
