Chapter 31 - Chapter30

*When the World Dances Back***

*Grief found rhythm. And rhythm answered.*

The rooftop could no longer hold him.

Aru's feet moved without mercy, each step echoing Kairo's heartbeat, each motion dragging the night into motion. Stone fractured beneath him as if the world itself flinched.

**THUM — THUM — THUM**

The rhythm wasn't sound.

It was *presence*.

The air bent.

The stars above distorted like reflections in water.

Aru's vision blurred as memories flooded him—not just his own, but **Kairo's**:

Tin cans hammered into drums.

Laughing under broken bridges.

The warmth of belonging when nothing else existed.

"YOU TOOK HIM," Aru screamed into the void.

The rhythm surged.

His body ignited—not with fire, but with motion sharpened into violence. Every muscle screamed with impossible strength.

The black feather on Kairo's chest disintegrated into ash.

---

## **THE FIRST STRIKE**

The rooftop walls detonated outward.

Aru launched himself skyward—

—not jumping, but *riding the beat*.

Mid-air, he twisted.

**SPIN.**

The city below rippled as a shockwave tore through the night, windows shattering blocks away.

Aru landed in the empty street below with a cratered impact.

Instructors.

Wardens.

Conservatory guards.

They arrived too late.

Too afraid.

"STAY BACK!" someone shouted.

Aru lifted his head.

His eyes glowed with reflected starlight and tears.

"You didn't protect him," Aru whispered.

"So I will."

---

## **SOULBEAT RESONANCE**

The rhythm inside him accelerated.

With each imagined drumbeat, his power multiplied.

Not doubled.

**Exponentially.**

Step — the ground split.

Turn — the air screamed.

Leap — gravity loosened its grip.

This wasn't learned.

It was remembered.

Eidolon watched from a shattered spire, expression unreadable.

"So it begins," he murmured.

---

## **THE PRICE OF POWER**

Aru felt it then.

The cost.

Every beat burned through him like lightning through veins.

The more he moved, the more his body paid.

Blood seeped from his nose.

His muscles tore microscopically with each strike.

But he didn't stop.

He couldn't.

Because stopping meant silence.

And silence meant accepting Kairo's death.

"I WON'T," Aru roared.

---

## **THE OATH**

Commander Veyra stepped forward, bracing against the pressure.

"Aru!" she shouted.

"STOP! You'll kill yourself!"

Aru turned to her.

His voice was calm now.

Dead calm.

"Where was the Conservatory," he asked,

"when a noble murdered my brother?"

Silence answered.

Aru nodded.

"Then listen."

He planted his foot.

The rhythm paused.

The entire district held its breath.

Aru spoke—not to them—

—but to the world.

"I will expose the Aural Nobles."

"I will tear down the Crown."

"And I will kill Soren Blackfall."

The rhythm slammed back into motion.

A shockwave exploded outward, knocking everyone off their feet.

Aru vanished into the night—

leaving only cracked stone, broken wards, and a city that would never sleep the same way again.

---

## **AFTERMATH**

On the rooftop above, Kairo's body lay still.

But the air around it pulsed softly.

One last beat.

As if saying goodbye.
