Chapter 9 - All You Can Do Is Dodge

Steven Davis placed the gun on the table, unwilling to be outdone, and lit a cigarette for himself.

I exhaled a circle of smoke and squinted, saying, "Only rookies lacking real combat experience rely on both hands to control recoil for accuracy. A seasoned veteran can handle it with just one hand."

I turned my head to look at Steven Davis and said, "Kid, remember to show respect when you see your elders in the future."

Then I extinguished the cigarette and stood up to say to Brittany Scott, "Remember to cook and clean on time when you go home. If you don't want to live here, just leave."

I walked away without looking back, not checking my results because I didn't need to!

"Why are you leaving? Can't handle losing?" Steven Davis shouted.

Brittany's face turned red as she glared at Steven Davis and scolded, "Enough, you're making a fool of yourself right at your doorstep."

Then she placed the target result sheet belonging to Tobby Curry on the table, saying, "He scored 30 out of 30 with six shots hitting the 5-point mark each! You lost the gun assembly and got thrashed in shooting!"

Steven Davis's eyes widened, as did those of his two colleagues who were both slack-jawed.

"Damn, a real pro here!" his two colleagues exclaimed excitedly, "Assembling the gun, turning, and hitting six shots with one-handed ease, not missing a bullseye, amazing!"

Steven Davis felt his face burning with embarrassment, a pain in his heart, especially in front of his goddess.

Just as I was walking away and hadn't completely left the stadium, Steven Davis loudly shouted, "You think SWAT skills are just marginally better than regular cops? Even if you're good at assembling guns, who actually plays gun assembly games casually?"

I paused, chuckled, then turned around to look at Steven Davis, saying, "Didn't you just play with me? Is it you who can't handle losing?"

Steven Davis was almost choking.

He scoffed, "When catching criminals, who has time to play gun assembly with you? Even if you scored full marks earlier, at this close range, even I could kill a suspect regardless of a headshot. So as a SWAT, it's crucial to show you what real strength is in the proper field."

I smiled, looking at him, "What do you want to play now?"

Steven Davis: "What, scared?"

I nonchalantly replied, "Not scared, but if you admit defeat and call me 'Grandpa,' I'll continue playing with you."

"I..." Steven Davis's expression slightly changed.

"If you can't handle it, I'll just leave." I said disdainfully, turning to leave when Steven Davis gritted his teeth, eyes almost blazing with fire, and shouted.

"Grandpa."

I, my back to the group, burst out laughing.

Steven Davis gritted his teeth and muttered to himself: Laugh for now, but see if you are still laughing later.

"Can you say 'Grandpa' more cutely like a cartoon character?" I mocked with a laugh.

"Cut the crap; the real strength of a SWAT is in combat! Do you dare face me in the ring? If not, then scram and stop bugging Brittany Scott afterward." Steven Davis said.

"Just to be clear, Brittany wants to stay at my place, not me pestering her, okay?" I said.

Brittany blushed slightly, "Didn't I agree under your conditions?"

"Did you hear that? From the start, it was Brittany who wanted to stay; I didn't force her. Get your facts straight if you're trying to protect her." I huffed.

Steven Davis took off his vest, revealing solid muscles, jumped onto the boxing ring, and put on his gloves, saying, "Come on, if you're so skilled, show me. Assembling a gun and shooting don't give safety, a man must also know how to fight. Brittany said you have some skills? Then come on, let me see."

I gazed at the taunting Steven Davis on the ring and pondered for a moment.

Brittany knew if this continued, Tobby Curry would end up beaten by Steven Davis. Steven was clearly angry; she couldn't let Tobby get hurt, or else how would she share that apartment? Yes, she initially intended to use these aggressive guys from the unit to intimidate Tobby, but upon finding out Tobby was also a cop, she felt a kinship and abandoned the idea of scaring him. But now Tobby surprised her; while assembling a gun wasn't a big skill, judging by his shooting display earlier, he was undoubtedly an experienced marksman!

"Let's go, let's end this here today." Brittany said, pulling me over, intending to leave the stadium without delay.

Seeing Brittany intending to leave with someone, Steven Davis shouted, "Brittany, no need to be so anxious; I'm just teaching him a few moves. You know Summit City is a mixed bag; don't underestimate patrol cops. In this city, you'll meet all kinds of people; not being capable in a few moves makes it hard to handle. I'm not insisting on a fight to prove SWAT's strength. I just feel, for a man, physical confrontation beats all that nonsense."

At this point, he looked at me with a funny, not funny, expression and asked, "What do you think?"

I, from a distance, looked at Steven Davis on the ring and nodded, "Not a bad idea."

"That's crap!" Brittany gritted her teeth, leaned in, and whispered to me, "That guy is pretty skilled, you'd lose in a fight. He was obviously mad before, and in this state, he won't distinguish light and heavy punches."

Ignoring Brittany, I strode towards the ring and said, "If you call me 'Grandpa' one more time, I'll come up and fight you."

"You!" Steven Davis was instantly furious.

"Can't handle losing, huh?" I questioned.

Steven Davis, holding back his anger, gritted his teeth, and said word by word, "Grandpa."

"Good boy. Now Grandpa will play a bit," I chuckled as I jumped into the ring. Steven Davis's two friends tossed me the gloves. After taking them, I put them on and bumped my fists, twisting my arms and neck.

Seeing him enter the ring wearing gloves, Steven Davis's mouth curled into a triumphant smile.

Just you wait, I'll knock you down and make you beg for mercy.

"Want to warm up?" Steven Davis sneered seeing me stretching.

"Need a warm-up to fight you?" I scornfully twisted my neck, then said, "Let's begin."

Steven Davis's face briefly flickered with a ferocious expression, then he kicked over. I casually dodged it. Steven didn't expect my quick reactions and followed up with two swinging punches towards my face, which I skillfully ducked past my waist.

Steven Davis's successive attacks were all dodged by me, who disdainfully glanced and said, "Hit me, why don't you?"

Frustrated and angry, Steven Davis cursed, "All you can do is dodge?"

I directly took off my gloves and threw them on the ground, then beckoned to Steven Davis, "Alright, no more dodging, come!"
