Chapter 4 - The Man in the Mirror

After the woman left, I finally took the time to look around the room.

It was absurdly luxurious. Exquisite tapestries covered the walls, and the bed was large enough for a king—comfortable enough to make anyone forget the world outside. On a dark wooden counter, rings and necklaces were scattered carelessly, yet every piece gleamed as if it were worth a fortune.

Beside me, a large door caught my attention.

I turned the handle.

It was the bathroom.

I stepped inside and froze the moment I saw the mirror.

The truth struck me like a blunt blow to the chest.

That body was not mine.

Defined muscles traced every line of the torso, broad shoulders, a solid abdomen—as if the body had been carefully sculpted. The skin was firm, unmarked by scars or illness. Messy black hair framed a sharp gaze, far too intense to belong to someone like me.

With a body like this…I could run for days without stopping.I could live a life I never had.I could exist—truly exist.

But suddenly, my stomach twisted.

The nausea rose so fast I couldn't stop it.

I gripped the edge of the sink and vomited.

The heavy smell filled the air.

Wine.

Pure wine—strong, bitter, overwhelming.

Wiping my mouth with the back of my hand, I slowly lifted my eyes to the mirror again.

And the man staring back at me… was definitely not me.

The bath was quick.

Afterward, I walked to the wardrobe. The moment I opened it, splendor struck my face—clothes that looked like they would cost a fortune back in my world.

My world?

The words formed slowly on my lips.

They pierced my mind deeply.Did my world no longer exist?Or did it still exist somewhere… without me?

Beside the wardrobe stood another mirror. The reflection seemed to glare at me with disapproval, as if it knew the person standing there did not belong.

A knock echoed from the door.

"Are you ready, Your Highness?"The female voice—Lygni's—pulled me out of the mental torment I was trapped in.

"I'm coming," I replied.

I picked one of the elegant outfits from the wardrobe and put it on. Then I looked at the mirror one last time.

"Please… let me live," I whispered to the reflection. "Just this once."

I turned away and walked to the door.

My hand rested on the handle.

"I'll do my best," I said as I opened it.
