Prologue

I don't recall much of who I was or even who I am; the only thing I remember is a single voice. The way the figure referred to me was as if he were associated with my existence. Their voice made all of my senses numb; this was a feeling I was sure couldn't be described by a mere emotion like fear. The pressure emanated by just their voice was enough to make me feel like being removed from existence, yet it didn't contain a single ounce of hatred or spite towards my being. Strangely, this feeling felt all too familiar, like I had experienced this all my life. He regarded me as if I were nothing more than a nuisance. As soon as we made eye contact, I felt a sharp pain in the back of my mind, as if my brain tried to forcefully pull out information that had been lost.

The pain soon became too unbearable for me to handle. At that moment, I wanted to die; that someone should put me out of my misery, but one cruel part of me knew that the pain was the only way to achieve any answers. I strained my mind to push forward anything about who I am, what I did, or who knew me. I tried with no prevail, gasping for air, my whole body pleading for something to end the pain. I managed to look up to see the figure's gaze fall on me. I could barely make out their features, hazed in the black mist we were surrounded by; all I knew was that they appeared 6 feet tall with large, indistinct shapes at their back, which were vague, but for a moment, I saw something akin to a feather, but my concentration shifted to his mouth as I heard a sigh. My attention quickly focused on his face, where I looked at where his mouth should be and heard him talk. It was barely audible, almost a whisper in fact –

"Joyonghan Jug-eum, always do well to remember your name".

Then he disappeared as soon as I saw him.

I wanted to inquire more from this 'being', but alas, my voice failed me. So many questions of who I was or who I'd been floated around my mind, but as long as I couldn't even utter a word, everything I had wanted to know would remain unanswered. I resolved to try to pull out more information from my mind in the same painful procedure which I tried previously.

"I wouldn't advise trying what you are about to do unless you want to intentionally end your life, for good, again", the being said as he appeared again, as if sensing what I was about to do.

I looked directly at him with newfound curiosity as to how he could tell what I was planning to do.

"I think I've entertained you enough", he suddenly said.

With a short flick of his wrist, my vision went black as I plummeted into a dark abyss. The pain I had felt before when trying to pull information from my brain was nothing compared to this. I could feel my body being moulded from scratch, every bone, tendon and muscle being wrapped around each other. All my organs fit into each appropriate position where I would normally belong, each being put in place with excruciating pain. As I could feel my head being formed, I passed out.
