Chapter 8 - Children

Ryōsuke forced his tense expression to relax.

He didn't want the old man standing before him to worry.

"Of course, Grandpa. We'll live well."

But deep inside, his thoughts were far sharper:

If I don't live well… how can I take revenge on the people who wronged the Uchiha?

It wasn't the Uchiha who betrayed Konoha—

It was Konoha's leadership that betrayed the Uchiha.

And Ryōsuke would make sure the clan survived the Night of Extermination.

To do that, he had to fully use both systems:

the Auto-Training System and the Many-Children System.

Having children…

It sounded simple.

Yet the first reward alone—an extremely rare treasure chest—was far too precious to waste on the wrong partner.

Relationships forged through the body were not easily severed.

He wanted someone he genuinely liked. Someone he felt comfortable with.

And with his Uchiha identity and handsome face, finding suitable women wouldn't be difficult.

Thinking of this, he turned to the old man.

"Grandpa," he said, "even if my talent is ordinary… I have an idea."

"If my own talent is limited, then I'll have children."

"And raise a powerful next generation."

The system guaranteed that as long as he fathered a child, he would receive a reward chest.

With that chest, he might obtain exactly what he needed to prevent the massacre—

and lead the Uchiha clan to rise again.

And besides, a child would also ease his grandfather's loneliness.

Uchiha Jin blinked.

Sixteen was old enough to marry in this era.

In the past, twelve had been legal—because the clan needed population.

Now, with stable numbers, early marriage was unnecessary.

But still…

Had the boy's fainting spell earlier damaged his brain?

Why was he suddenly talking like this?

Yet, when he thought more deeply…

This large house truly did feel empty with only the two of them.

A faint smile appeared on the old man's face.

"It's not impossible," Jin said. "As long as you've truly thought it through."

It was Ryōsuke's life—his choice.

Interfering too much would only cause problems.

Ryōsuke grinned.

"And from now on, I'll be spending less time at the Police Force."

He had far more important things to do.

Remaining with the Uchiha Police Force was pointless.

Power—real power—was what he needed.

Uchiha Jin narrowed his eyes suspiciously.

Was this brat using marriage as an excuse to skip work?

But… fine.

If Ryōsuke didn't want to go to the Police Force, let him stay home.

He wasn't about to risk Ryōsuke collapsing again.

He only had one precious grandson left.

He couldn't bury another child.

"Very well," Jin said. "I'll speak to Uchiha Fugaku myself."

Ryōsuke blinked.

"You… can do that? Fugaku is the Police Force captain. Everything goes through him."

Jin snorted, suddenly radiating the full authority of an old Uchiha elder.

"Of course it's useful. I watched that boy grow up. You think he'd dare ignore my words?"

Ryōsuke finally relaxed.

Meanwhile — Kurenai at Home

After a long, exhausting day, Kurenai collapsed on the sofa.

Her mother immediately brought out dinner.

Kurenai joined her at the table.

Her father, Yūhi Makoto, had died in the Nine-Tails attack while protecting the village—

leaving only mother and daughter behind.

Now Kurenai carried the financial burden as the family's only shinobi.

While they ate, her mother suddenly asked:

"Kurenai… Asuma confessed to you today, didn't he?

Why didn't you accept?"

"If you marry the Hokage's son, our family could rise again.

You wouldn't have to work so hard taking dangerous missions every day."

Kurenai's brows tightened.

Asuma—reckless, foul-tempered, impulsive—

How could she possibly accept someone like that?

She couldn't help thinking:

He isn't even as decent as that Uchiha boy.

"Mother, can we talk about this later?

How do you even know Asuma confessed? You were home all day."

Her mother answered honestly:

"The Third Hokage told me himself.

He hopes you and Asuma will grow closer."

"You know what that means, don't you?"

"It means our clan could rise again—

we might even marry into the Sarutobi family."

Kurenai's expression darkened further.

This era still cared about arranged marriages?

It was her life, her choice.

She wasn't willing to trade her happiness for politics.

Her mother sighed.

"If you don't like Asuma, I'll respect that."

"But—"

Her eyes sharpened.

"You're not… in love with that Uchiha boy, are you?"

"That would be unacceptable."

"When the Hokage visited, he specifically said he didn't want you getting close to that Uchiha."

Kurenai's heart skipped.

The image of a handsome Uchiha with a sense of justice flashed in her mind.

If she had to choose, he was far better than Asuma.

But they had only met once.

They weren't even acquaintances.

"Mother, what are you saying? I could never like him.

We just met today!"

Her mother relaxed—slightly.

Then her expression hardened again.

"Kurenai, don't forget your father."

"Yūhi Makoto died in the Nine-Tails disaster."

"And that disaster… was most likely caused by the Uchiha."

"If not for them, your father would still be alive.

Our clan wouldn't have fallen so low.

We wouldn't be struggling like this."

"So listen carefully—"

"Never fall for the descendant of your enemy."
