Chapter 73 - Chapter 73: Crossfire and Breakout

Outside the factory, Jessica and Luke were somewhat bewildered, watching the sudden outbreak of fighting and the large police presence.

They exchanged glances.

"What should we do now?" Jessica asked.

Luke Cage looked towards the factory: "The NYPD has deployed so many officers this time. Let's listen to Mr. Daredevil and not get involved."

Jessica looked slightly conflicted: "What about Jim... and the headmaster's commission?"

Matt heard Jessica's hesitation and spoke with a serious tone: "If this Mr. Jim you're following has broken the law, he will naturally be arrested by the NYPD."

"Do not think that just because you have superhuman abilities, you can rescue someone from the police.

"Such an act of resisting law enforcement is not helping him; it's harming him, and you yourself will be breaking the law."

Jessica shook her head: "I never intended to fight the police. It's just that the situation on the scene seems very chaotic."

"With the police and gangs engaged in a gunfight, I'm worried Mr. Jim might be caught in the crossfire."

"After taking the commission, we did some initial investigation into our target."

Luke Cage also chimed in: "Although Mr. Jim's current business is unclear, he is definitely not some heinous villain!"

"On the contrary, he is helpful and has always supported the orphanage that raised him."

"No matter what, he really shouldn't die here senselessly."

"Then what are you planning to do?" Daredevil was also in a difficult position.

The current situation was extremely complex: police, gangs, and the Hand all engaged in a chaotic melee.

Even Daredevil himself wasn't confident in moving freely through this battlefield.

Jessica gritted her teeth: "I'll go inside and take a look. If the police can control the situation, then we'll quietly remain spectators."

"If Mr. Jim is truly in danger, I'll rescue him first, and we can deal with the rest later."

"Let me go instead," Luke Cage reached out to stop Jessica: "At least I don't have to worry about being fatally wounded by bullets."

Matt's heart stirred upon hearing this: Doesn't fear bullets? Does he have the ability to be impervious to blades and bullets?

Jessica, however, smiled and shook her head, her body hovering in the air: "I'm more suitable. Did you forget? I can fly."

"If it's just to go in and save someone, Jessica is indeed more suitable."

Matt also began analyzing: "Even if you're immune to bullets, if you charge straight in, you'll likely become the target of everyone.

"Even with your impervious skin and resistance to bullets, it might be difficult to rescue the person."

"Jessica, with her flying ability, has a considerable advantage in this regard."

"Don't worry, I'm just going to check for danger."

"If the police can quickly control the situation, I naturally won't need to show up and save anyone." Jessica finished speaking and floated into the air, flying toward the factory.

"All gang members inside the factory, including the individuals conducting the transaction, have been sealed off in the central area," the supervising sergeant reported to George.

"Very good. Try your best not to injure them fatally."

"Make sure to capture the personnel conducting the transaction tonight alive." George nodded in satisfaction.

"Chief, special personnel from the Department of Homeland Security have appeared on the periphery and requested a meeting with you."

George frowned. Department of Homeland Security? What are these guys doing here?

"Bring their commanding officer to see me."

"This is Major Rumlow, an agent from the Department of Homeland Security."

Rumlow smiled and extended his right hand: "A pleasure to meet you, Chief George Stacy."

George shook his hand lukewarmly: "Major Rumlow, what can I do for you?"

Rumlow showed no sign of dissatisfaction with George's curt attitude and replied with a smile: "We are here to assist the NYPD."

"And then what?" George didn't believe the Department of Homeland Security would be so helpful, assisting them without expecting anything in return.

"Naturally, after arresting the criminals present, we need to take the personnel involved in the transaction and the transaction items back to our agency," Rumlow said.

A flicker of anger crossed George's eyes upon hearing this. They're here to snatch the fruits of our labor.

"This is an NYPD operation!"

George stressed.

"However, the items being transacted are extremely dangerous and already pose a serious threat to national security," Rumlow said unhurriedly, smiling.

"Furthermore, the Department of Homeland Security had already planned this operation; it just happened to coincide with the NYPD's operation."

"I need to speak with your superior." George indicated that Rumlow, as a team leader, was not qualified to decide the jurisdiction of this operation.

"Of course." Rumlow appeared completely composed.

"Well?" Rumlow looked at George Stacy, whose expression was unpleasant.

"The people and the items can be handed over to you."

George snorted: "However, any subsequent intelligence and progress must be shared with the NYPD."

"These dangerous items circulating in the New York black market have severely threatened the order and stability of New York City."

"The NYPD must control the first-hand intelligence information."

"That is certainly not a problem," Rumlow directly guaranteed.

"In that case, Major Rumlow, please take your personnel and attack to apprehend the targets."

Since the items and people were going to be taken away by them anyway, it was only right to let this special team from the Department of Homeland Security exert the effort.

George certainly wouldn't be foolish enough to let his officers risk their lives for others.

"Damn it, how did the police get here too? Someone definitely leaked the information!" Dex cursed as he looked at the suddenly appearing NYPD forces forming a perimeter.

"We can't worry about that right now. We must fight our way out. Hold onto the Gaia Memory and stick close to me," Dex said to Jim, who was clutching the briefcase and huddled up.

Although he thought Jim was a bit timid, Dex decided to take Jim with him, otherwise, if something happened to the transaction personnel,

The mysterious organization circulating the Gaia Memories might misunderstand and think he had pulled some trick.

Dex did not want to offend the mysterious organization behind Jim, as he still planned to acquire more Gaia Memories to build up his own power.

"Anomalocaris"

Dex transformed into the Anomalocaris Dopant, boldly walking out from behind cover and firing spikes, eliminating two Hand ninjas attempting to approach.

He completely ignored the gang members shooting at him and covered Jim, preparing to escape towards the river.

"What is that monster?"

"Is that the so-called Memory being traded today that grants people great power?"

"It completely ignores gunfire?!"

The gang members were helpless against Dex, who had transformed into a Dopant, and expressed their astonishment.

Only the Hand ninjas attacked fearlessly, but the sharp katanas in their hands were no match for the Anomalocaris Dopant's armor.

In the end, they were either pierced by spikes or sent flying by Dex, their fates unknown.

The gang members, seeing even the Hand ninjas dying so miserably and realizing their firearms were ineffective, no longer dared to step forward to block him.

Dex quickly approached the outer police cordon unhindered, feeling incredibly exhilarated. The feeling of possessing great power was truly wonderful.

Jessica floated mid-air, watching the situation in the factory, and felt conflicted.

This oddly-shaped guy must be using one of those USB-like devices, just like Kilgrave, to transform into a monster. So Jim's merchandise is this kind of thing!

Moreover, it looks like Jim is willingly following that monster to leave. Should I stop them?

To prevent Mr. Jim from making another mistake?

However, this monster seems very difficult to deal with.

Gwen, in her Game Area, also noticed Dex, transformed into a Dopant.

After exchanging information with Li Hua and Elena.

She still decided to wait and see. Based on the Dopant's actions, he was shielding Jim behind him and attempting to leave, clearly possessing full self-awareness.

It felt like it simply granted the user special abilities.

In this situation, Li Hua and Elena believed that the Bugster Rider system should not be used.

Furthermore, since Gwen's father was not in danger, they both advised her to observe the developments quietly.

Dex fired countless spikes to suppress the police, just as he was thinking of breaking through the cordon and escaping via the waterway with Jim.

Suddenly, a grenade blasted over without warning.

Jim was sent flying directly by the huge impact of the explosion.

Dex also had a large section of his armor shattered by the grenade, which ignited his fury.

He locked onto Rumlow, who had fired the grenade.

Looking at Dex, who was still active despite being hit by a grenade, Rumlow clicked his tongue slightly: "The power of the Gaia Memory is truly impressive."

At the same time, he reloaded ammunition into the grenade launcher attached to his rifle.
