Elian's gaze lingered on the page long after the words had stopped making sense. Ink blurred into meaningless shapes as a single thought kept circling his mind, insistent and restless—how did Philip know so much? It gnawed at him quietly, the way unanswered questions always did. He shifted in his chair and glanced sideways, studying the other omega from beneath his lashes.
Philip, as if tugged by some unseen thread, lifted his head at that very moment. Honey-brown eyes met Elian's, brows arching faintly in silent inquiry. There was no accusation in his look, only open curiosity, and it made heat creep up Elian's neck. He cleared his throat quickly and dropped his gaze back to the book, forcing himself to keep reading though his focus had already fractured.
The soft thud of the book closing made him flinch.
