Chapter 67 - Chapter 67 Investigating the "Leader"

Audrey had already imagined the scene of a righteous outlaw breaking into Capin's evil hideout alone.

At the same time, she couldn't help but wonder: Was that chivalrous thief a follower of Mr. Fool?

While eating breakfast, Earl Hall continued, "The chivalrous thief broke into Capin's villa, not only stealing all the valuables from the safe, but also taking the lives of Capin and his wicked henchmen, and rescuing the girls imprisoned in the dungeon."

"He scattered tarot cards all over Capin, most notably the 'Judgment' and 'Emperor' cards on his face, and a 'Hermit' card lying alone on the ground."

Tarot cards!

Audrey's eyes suddenly lit up: "I'm not very clear about the 'Judgment' card and the 'Emperor' card, but I do know of a gentleman codenamed 'The Hermit'."

...

At the same time, Hugh saw the sign left by the man in the golden mask for an emergency meeting.

Hugh immediately arrived at the agreed meeting place, which was a secluded alleyway with many intersections.

The man in the golden mask, still dressed in a black tuxedo, swept his light brown eyes over Hugh's head: "I have a task for you."

Hugh asked succinctly, "Difficulty and reward?"

"The initial reward is 30 pounds. If you can get useful information, I can even give you an extraordinary material corresponding to the 'Sheriff' rank."

The generous reward actually made Hugh frown: "What kind of mission?"

The man wearing the golden mask said, "You should know Kapin, right?"

Hugh frowned even more deeply: "Kapin? That human trafficker?"

The man in the golden mask nodded: "Yes."

"I refuse this mission, I hate it!" Hugh immediately replied.

"He's not working for Kapin," the man chuckled. "Because he's already dead."

Hugh was momentarily stunned: "Dead?"

"He's dead," the man said definitively. "He died in his own home, his body covered in tarot cards, with two on his face: one of 'Judgment' and one of 'The Emperor'. It's said that the 'Hermit' card is also very prominent."

He then added, "By the way, while you're at it, keep an eye out for any recent cases involving tarot cards that haven't been reported to the police."

After a moment's thought, Hugh said, "Okay, I accept this task."

"There's also a long-term mission," the man in the golden mask added. "As far as I know, you can join the Mysticism Research Society?"

Hugh immediately became wary: "Who told you that?"

"Don't be so nervous, we have people in the research association." The other party explained briefly and then added, "The long-term mission is to monitor the 'leader'."

"You can get £5 for each report on the general content of the gathering, and if you know how he left the venue, I can apply for £300 for you."

The members of MI9 in the research association have not yet figured out this matter.

Xiu hesitated for a moment before saying, "I'll think about it."

Then she asked, "Why investigate the 'leader'? Since you already have people in the research association, why do you still need my surveillance?"

"Because the 'leader' appeared at yesterday's crime scene, and he killed at least one of Kapin's men."

Hugh was quite surprised; she hadn't expected the "leader" to be involved. She wondered what role he played in it.

She then recalled Byron's description at the last gathering, where the "leader" had promised to protect Byron's life.

Unexpectedly, it was killing Capin that protected Byron's safety!

The masked man continued, "As for your surveillance, it's a form of insurance."

"The leader is a very charismatic person, and I'm afraid our people might be hiding something from us on some key details."

After a moment's thought, Xiu said, "I'm sorry, I'm not really willing to accept this task."

To be honest, she admired the "leader" somewhat for daring to attack Kapin.

"It's alright," the man in the golden mask smiled. "As we agreed before, you have the right to choose your mission."

After saying goodbye to the masked man, Hugh bought a newspaper nearby and hurried back to her and Fors's rented apartment.

Fors had just finalized the opening of his new book and was in a good mood, preparing to reward himself with a cigarette, when Hugh pushed open the door to the study.

Hugh stared at the unlit cigarette in the other person's hand: "Smoking is harmful to your health."

Fors didn't argue, but instead asked, "Why are you back so early today?"

"Remember Kapin we talked about a few days ago?"

"Of course I remember," Fors replied. "Your friend Byron seems to be investigating this human trafficker."

Hugh scratched his rough blond hair: "He's dead."

"Byron? I knew it..."

Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!

"Kapin is dead!" Hugh corrected.

Fors was slightly surprised before saying, "This villain has finally received the punishment he deserves."

Then she asked, "How did he die?"

"The man wasn't described in detail, but I bought a newspaper on my way back, and it said he was killed by 'Robin Hood' Black Emperor." As he spoke, Hugh handed the newspaper to his friend.

"What Robin Hood?" Fors didn't quite believe the contents of the newspaper, but when she saw the tarot cards in it, she was suddenly stunned and immediately thought of the Tarot Club.

She thought to herself: Could it be something done by one of our members? But there's no member with the code name "Emperor"... If it is, this is the first time I've ever found traces of the Tarot Society in the real world.

As Fors was making connections, Hugh added, "What surprised me was that the 'leader' of the Mysticism Research Society was also involved."

"What?" Hugh's words immediately pulled Fors back to reality from the Tarot meeting.

Hugh said, "The masked man said that the 'leader' also appeared at the scene and killed at least one of Kapin's men."

Fors pointed at the newspaper: "What does that 'leader' have to do with Robin Hood?"

"I didn't ask." Because it would involve some rather confidential information, and if he asked, Hugh would find it difficult to refuse the masked man's mission.

She said, "But I reckon we'll get the answer at the next gathering."

...

Wearing a mask, Odis rode in the "Mechanical Heart" carriage to No. 199 Hairun Avenue, the venue for the Mysticism Research Association.

He retrieved the "Flaming Arrow" from the waiters and told the two waiters that they would receive double pay this week.

The two waiters, who had been somewhat frightened and looking worried, suddenly beamed with joy.

Odis then had one of his waiters place a GG in the Backlund Post, informing the members of the Mystic Research Society that a meeting would be held the following day.

Then, Odis used the "teleportation array" in the basement to leave. As soon as she came out of the spirit world, Odis saw Bernadette sitting in a chair in the basement.

Upon seeing Odis, she immediately asked, "Who is that so-called chivalrous thief 'Black Emperor'?"
