Chapter 17 - Chapter 17 The Fool and the Justice's Views on the New Members

Upon hearing Odis the Hermit's "guess," Klein the Fool almost burst out laughing: "Isn't the 'sun' in the sky?"

"Justice" Audrey was somewhat amused and exasperated: "Sorry, my description wasn't accurate enough."

"The Sun" Derrick had no choice but to say, "Mr. Hermit, I am in the land you call the Forsaken of God!"

His previous interactions made him feel that the new member was a very easy-going and kind person, which is why he told the other person his location without reservation.

Moreover, for him, this was not something to hide at the Tarot meeting.

Odis was so surprised he almost stood up: "The Forsaken Land! The legendary Forsaken Land!"

He felt like he wasn't there to attend the party, but rather to put on an act.

After showing sufficient surprise, Odis continued, "I understand."

Let's end this topic quickly, my facial expressions are about to break down.

The topic ended as expected after the new member made a "I need to take a break" expression.

Next, "The World" spoke with Derrick alone, and everyone began to exchange ideas freely.

Audrey enthusiastically explained to the new members, "After the transaction, we usually chat about interesting things that happen around us, or rumors we've heard."

What may seem like an ordinary thing to you could be crucial information to someone else.

Odis nodded: "Thank you for your explanation."

Then everyone began to chat freely. "The Hanged Man" Alger talked about his experiences at sea, Audrey talked about the nobility, and Derrick shared some of his daily life in Silver City.

"The Magician" Fors then talked about some rumors he had heard in the extraordinary world of Backlund, and even "The World" discussed the topic of "serial murders".

With new members joining this gathering, topics that could reveal their approximate location should not be discussed at this tarot meeting.

However, Odis's reaction at the gathering did not make anyone feel that there was any danger involved, so they did not try to avoid the topic and continued to speak freely.

When it was Odis's turn, in order to show his willingness to participate in the party, he also shared three ways to handle daisies.

This is normal, herbalistic occult knowledge; you can hear similar things at any occult gathering.

However, Odis was experienced and articulate, and he described the processing of a common herb in a very interesting way.

Even after the fog cleared, Klein remarked: "It feels a bit like watching 'A Bite of China'."

The very curious Audrey asked, "Mr. Hermit, do these common herbs also contain spiritual properties?"

"Of course," Odis replied. "In my view, all things possess a spirit, it's just a matter of degree."

Audrey nodded slowly. This matched her previous knowledge of occultism perfectly. She then asked, "I've heard that ordinary people also possess spirituality?"

Odis hummed in agreement: "That's why many cultists sacrifice ordinary people when they can't find better offerings."

Fors suddenly thought of the mission the "Hanged Man" had received: "Could the missing persons we just talked about be part of some evil, secretive organization carrying out mass sacrifices?"

Odis gently shook his head: "If it were the work of cultists, the Church of the True God would certainly have noticed it."

Alger said, "That's also strange. With so many people missing, it's enough for those dangerous and crazy secret organizations to carry out many bloody large-scale sacrifices. It's impossible that the Church didn't notice."

"The World" also joined the discussion: "This only shows that those missing persons cases are not, or not entirely, the work of evil secret organizations."

Fors frowned: "Who could it be? Or what organization did all this?"

Her question went unanswered. Fors considered writing the story in her novel, but then thought that it might anger the mastermind behind it all, and that a mysterious person would come to collect the pennies from the gas meter in the middle of the night. So she eventually gave up the idea.

After exchanging a few more words, Klein announced the end of this tarot session.

...

15 Minsk Street, Joewood District.

Klein, lying on the bed, opened his eyes and gently rubbed his temples: If the "Hermit" has a magical item in his hand, I'll buy it!

Unfortunately, it still needs maintenance...

Getting out of bed, Klein sat on the edge of the bed and thought again: As the convener of the Tarot Club, I don't even know if the "Hermit" is actually the "Craftsman"!

Regardless of whether the other party is a "craftsman" or not, the "hermit" seems to have achieved very advanced research results in the field of occultism!

It's no wonder that it attracted the attention of some important figures in the extraordinary world.

Klein saw both the risks and the benefits.

The risk is naturally that the bigger the tree, the more the wind will blow. To help the "Hermit" deal with the prying eyes of those big shots, the "Fool" is currently only at Sequence 7, and it is unknown whether it will be very difficult.

Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!

The convenience naturally stems from the fact that the Tarot Club now has access to channels related to extraordinary weapons, and the new members seem to be very well-informed.

Klein took a deep breath and began to ponder again why the space "above the gray fog" would invite the "hermit".

...

Inside Earl Hall's luxurious villa in Queens.

Audrey awoke on a bed adorned with delicately carved deep sleep flowers, a smile playing on her lips: she hadn't expected a new member to join them today.

"You're finally awake." Susie, with her glossy fur, walked over quickly. "Annie came by once and saw you taking a nap, so she didn't disturb you."

Anne is Audrey's personal maid.

"Thank you for protecting me, Susie." Audrey smiled. "Here's a reward for you…"

As she was talking, she suddenly froze.

Susie asked, "What's wrong, Audrey? Are you out of cookies? I remember we had two packs left."

Audrey would usually reward him with a bag of dog biscuits at this time.

"No, I just suddenly remembered something else." Audrey's expression was somewhat serious.

She suddenly realized that the new member's movements were very unnatural, especially when talking about the little sun coming from the "forsaken land of the gods." Although the "hermit" showed surprise, his body language was faster than his vaguely visible expression, which was very abnormal.

At the time, Audrey didn't pay much attention, but now that the party is over, she briefly reviewed it and realized that the new member's actions were somewhat abnormal on several occasions. This was enough to show that many of the new member's reactions were not his direct inner thoughts.

But...

Audrey grew increasingly astonished: that was the "Forsaken Land"! Every extraordinary person with some knowledge of mysticism would be genuinely surprised upon hearing "Forsaken Land," marveling at the sophistication of the Tarot Society and praising Mr. Fool's power!

The new member didn't look as surprised as he did. Could it be that he had been exposed to the "Forsaken Land" before joining the Tarot Club?

The more Audrey thought about it, the more mysterious the new member seemed.
