Chapter 8 - Chapter Eight - A Masterpiece !

Leaning backward with much discomfort, Sophia scoffs, "I am sorry, but you are mistaken, however I contributed to that mistake, I do apologize. Now if you will excuse me, I need to find him." She says still wearing a smile as she intends to walk away.

She had just taken two steps when the instrumentalist made their introductory note, signaling for the first dance. Sophia sighs, intending to hurry away, but a hand grabs her from behind.

"At least a dance." It was the same man, he says turning her to face him, a sickening smile on his face. "Just one dance, I will pay." He says his grip on her wrist tightening.

"I –

"I will give you just one second to get your filthy hands off my wife, and if it takes longer than that, you may lose that entire arm." Came a voice behind them, and they both turn in the direction of the voice.

Her eyes widen partly as they land on the god in front of her. Yes, he had to be a god, because no man should look that hot even in a tuxedo. Sophia gulps, looking away just as this stranger, whoever he was, begins to walk towards them. The man who had been holding unto her wrist quickly lets go and takes a step backwards away from her.

He walks over and stands next to her, his eyes on the other man. "I thought I heard her clearly tell you she was with someone?" he says in a voice just as godly as he.

The other man gulps, tucking one hand into his trouser. "My mistake, I must have misheard." He says scurrying away.

Sophia sighs, turning to face the stranger who has just saved her. "Thank you very much, for … for stepping in." she says with a smile at him.

He offers her a nod. She was just about to walk away when the instrumentalist released another warning string just as people begin to take their stand on the dance floor with their partners. He looks at her just as she looks up at him. "Not that I am saying you are one, but," he offers another smile at her, "I happen to be in need of an escort for tonight, just for the ball." His eyes on her, "I am yet to find one, and it's time for the first dance already. Would you do me the honor, of giving me your first dance?" he asks, offering her his hand.

Sophia smiles, she could not find it in her to say no even if she wanted to. And so with a slight nod of her head, she smiles at him. "The pleasure is mine." She says taking the hand he was offering.

Slowly, he leads her away towards the dance floor. They take their stand just as the music begins to fill the air.

He had seen her first. After spending hours going round the hall, with nothing to show forth, and with no hope of finding what he was looking for, Callum had decided that maybe this too was not going to work. Maybe he was not going to find the one he was looking for here tonight. The ladies here, they were nothing close to what he was looking for. For hours, he has met many ladies here tonight, some escorts, some who would even jump on the offer he had in mind, but for some reason he was okay with settling for them. They was something off about them, he found something he disagreed with in all of them.

Sighing and ready to retire for the night, he had pulled out his phone to dial his chauffeur, and that was when he had seen her from where she stood. She stood by the server's counter, leaning against it with a glass in her left hand, wearing a lazy look like she cared less about anything else in the world. Slowly, his hand with the phone ready to call his chauffeur had lowered as he swept a look at her, his eyes taking careful notice of her.

She was not faking it, she was not faking any look she was offering. She looked rich, and it was convincing in every way. She looked like someone who came from money, and she did not need words to convince someone she was, not like most of the ladies here tonight with their fake jewelries and accent. This one was real. Was she here with someone?

He watched her, as her eyes sweeps the entire hall as though she was searching for something, or someone. He was still watching her when he saw a man approach her from behind, a smile on his face. Believing he was her partner, Callum had been about to walk away when he saw the look in her eyes. It was that of discomfort, and so he had stilled, his eyes fixed on both of them.

A moment later, he saw all he needed to know that the man was neither her escort nor partner, he was just another inferior man who enjoy making a woman uncomfortable. She was uncomfortable, and not even the steady smile and poise she kept on her face could convince him otherwise. And so he walks over just in time to stop him from taking her to the dance floor against her wish.

When she had taken his hand which he had offered her asking for a dance, a shock had run down his entire body, heating up his body in all the right places. He couldn't blame his body for that, the lady would do that to any man. Yes, he was sure of that, as not even the mask she wore could hide how beautiful she was. She had a killer body too, one that would have men selling their fortunes for a night with her. And when she had looked up at him and smiled after the other man was gone, Callum was sure his heart had skipped. No, that was a bad sign.

The music begins and they begin to move to the beat, waltzing across the hall. When he had placed his hand for the first time on her slender waist, Callum felt that shock run down his body again. Another bad sign.

"So tell me," he begins, his eyes on her, "are you really here with someone? Should I be expecting him here at any moment?"

She offers another heart racing smile at him. "No." she says with a slight shake of her head. "I am here alone, tonight." Sophia says,

her eyes finding his.
