Chapter 142 - Chapter 140: The Avengers vs. King Laofei

Sizzle, sizzle~~~

The beam emitter burst at full power, and high-heat pulse waves continuously blasted toward Laufey.

Laufey had possessed the Casket of Ancient Winters for almost half an hour now, and honestly, Tony was getting anxious.

No one understood better than him the terrifying chain reactions that would follow a sudden world-wide drop in temperature.

A rapid, extreme temperature decline in such a short period would inevitably lead to violent movement of hot and cold air currents.

What followed would be hurricanes, tsunamis, and even earthquakes!

How terrifying could a massive tsunami be?

The most terrifying tsunami recorded in human history was the 1960 Great Chilean Earthquake and Tsunami.

The waves averaged 8–9 meters, with the highest reaching 25 meters.

The massive tsunami instantly swallowed ships, ports, villages, and cities; the Pacific coast, centered on Puerto Montt, was almost completely devastated for 800 kilometers north and south.

This massive tsunami directly caused tens of thousands of deaths and disappearances, and nearly 2 million people were left homeless.

If Earth's temperature continued to drop further, the Great Chilean Tsunami — the largest in human history — would likely be considered small by comparison.

Most coastal cities around the world would be affected, becoming vast expanses of water!

They had to end this quickly!

"Captain, hit me!" Tony Stark shouted.

Captain understood. Using Thor's hammer as a conduit, a lightning bolt suddenly struck Iron Man's Anti-Frost Giant armor.

Instantly, the Mark armor overflowed with energy, and high-heat energy pulse waves poured onto King Laufey.

But at that moment, the high-heat pulses fired by Iron Man were directly frozen.

The shards of ice even moved against the energy pulses, wrapping around Iron Man.

In the blink of an eye, the Mark armor was covered in a thick layer of ice crystals.

"Little bug, I've tolerated you for too long!"

King Laufey's expression darkened; he had actually been scorched by an ant-like being wrapped in an iron tin can.

This was simply humiliation!

"To be able to hurt me is your honor!"

Laufey glared at Tony Stark, waved his arm, and a large number of ice spikes appeared behind him.

All of them pointed at the frozen Tony. If they struck, Tony would instantly become a porcupine.

"Careful!"

Captain America roared, throwing the hammer in his hand.

Mjolnir arrived first, smashing into Laufey's head and sending it tilting as he saw stars.

Seizing the moment, Captain followed with his shield.

With a clang, the frozen Iron Man was knocked away, escaping the ice spikes.

At the same time, the shield returned to Captain's hand.

Captain was about to summon the hammer, but an enormous ice hammer suddenly descended from the sky — and it came too fast.

Captain barely reacted, managing only to hastily raise his shield.

Clang!

Although the Vibranium shield absorbed much of the damage, Captain still had to rely on his body to disperse the immense force.

With a crack, the ice beneath his knee instantly split, forming dense web-like fissures.

And this was only the beginning. Before Captain recovered, a second ice hammer smashed down.

He instinctively raised his shield.

The second, the third, the fourth…

Boom!

With a loud crash, Captain's body rolled backward like a leaf in a storm.

Captain was still only mortal, and the impact was too great. His head spun, his consciousness blurred.

"Die!"

Laufey had had enough of Captain, Tony, and Thor pestering him. The Casket of Ancient Winters fully activated, and a floating iceberg formed in the sky.

The iceberg descended, aiming to crush the fallen Captain.

But at that moment, Iron Man — thrusters firing at maximum — shot forward and rammed into Laufey's stomach, sending him flying.

Meanwhile, Thor, who had been frozen earlier, finally shattered the ice. Lightning surged as he swung his hammer, smashing apart the descending iceberg just before it hit Captain.

Hoo-hoo-hoo~ Hoo-hoo-hoo~

Tony, Thor, and Captain once again regrouped.

Covered in wounds and panting heavily, the three still stood firmly on the frontline facing Laufey.

King Laufey, empowered by the activated Casket of Ancient Winters, was overwhelming. Even the three of them together had been scattered.

Tony Stark said, "We can't keep dragging this out — we have to end this fast. If we wait any longer, Earth could enter an Ice Age!"

Captain gasped, "Can't we just snatch the Casket of Ancient Winters?"

Thor's expression darkened. "If anyone other than a Frost Giant touches an activated Casket of Ancient Winters, its power will instantly freeze that person into shards. Unless one's divine power is on the level of my father… or unless Rimuru intervenes."

Everyone looked toward Rimuru — who was currently fighting elsewhere — and their hearts sank.

Boom!

A hammer flew back into Captain's hand. Captain was covered in blood, yet his expression was resolute.

"Now, we can only trust our comrades! If Laufey wants to return to the battlefield, he'll have to walk over my corpse!"

Seeing Captain's unyielding back, Thor finally understood why Mjolnir had chosen him.

Rumble!

Lightning swirled around Thor once more. "I, Thor Odinson, am the future King of Asgard! How could I retreat when eliminating invaders in my own homeland?"

Rumble!

Tony shook his head. His Anti-Frost Giant armor was already heavily damaged, but it could still fight one more round.

"That blueberry actually froze me! Since Mark III, my suits have accounted for freezing conditions in detail. Time to let that blueberry taste the Anti-Frost Giant armor's trump card!"

Seeing the three wounded yet unwavering figures before him, Laufey was unexpectedly moved.

"Though you are my enemies, you are true warriors. A warrior's greatest honor is to die on the battlefield — and I shall grant you that honor!"

"Enough talk, Laufey — prepare to die!"

Tony, Captain, and Thor charged at King Laufey.

Laufey unleashed the Casket's full power. Massive icebergs erupted from the ground, and endless ice cones rained from the heavens.

The three found themselves in an unprecedented level of danger.

Fire Giants and Frost Giants counteracted each other.

One had lost the Eternal Flame; the other had lost the Casket of Ancient Winters.

They had originally been evenly matched, neither able to conquer the other — but unexpectedly, Laufey had regained the Casket of Ancient Winters.

Even more outrageous, he had used it to freeze all of Asgard.

This time, the Fire Giants were in dire straits.

The weaker Fire Giants were frozen to death instantly. The Great Chieftains and Chieftains were gravely wounded and sluggish.

Even Fire King Surtur was severely injured and in terrible condition!

Worse yet, Laufey had frozen the path to Muspelheim, completely cutting off Surtur's retreat.

In an instant, the Flame King had fallen from his lofty throne, worse than a phoenix stripped of all its feathers.

Just then, a blue figure quietly appeared in the place where Surtur hid.

Surtur was startled. "How are you here? Weren't you fighting on the battlefield?"

Rimuru smiled sweetly; he had finally found Surtur — it really wasn't easy!

As expected of the Fire King, he was truly good at hiding.

"Oh, that? The one on the battlefield is a clone. Not bad, right?"

The flames in Surtur's eyes flickered wildly as shock surged in his heart. A mere clone had been enough to terrify the Frost Giants on the battlefield.

How strong, then, was his true body?

"What do you want here? Rimuru King, you must understand by now — we are not enemies. Laufey is our common enemy!"

Rimuru chuckled. This Surtur was pretty quick on the uptake.

"Relax, I don't intend to fight you. I just want to borrow something."

Surtur wasn't foolish. At such a critical moment in the war, would Rimuru really come just to borrow something?

He must be here to take advantage of the situation.

"…What do you want to borrow?"

Rimuru licked his lips. "Your crown."

What?

Surtur was stunned. His crown? That was one of his deepest secrets! How did Rimuru even know about it?

But before he could protest, the Rimuru before him melted into a puddle of blue liquid — and engulfed him.
