Chapter 39 - Blood Between Brothers

The park was silent.

A cold wind moved through the empty swings, making them creak softly in the darkness. Beneath a dim streetlamp, the Mafia sat alone on a wooden bench, his face half-hidden in shadow. His expression was calm… too calm.

He raised his phone and dialed a number.

The call connected.

"Kael."

A pause.

"Yes."

Mafia's voice was steady. "Kill every member of the Misaki Clan."

Silence lingered for a second before he added—

"Except Nobu and his family."

On the other end, Kael's fingers tightened around his sword.

"…I want to kill Nobu too."

"No." Mafia's tone turned cold. "Leave him."

Kael did not argue further.

There was a reason.

The man who had saved Kael when he was broken, starving, and abandoned…

The man who had shaped him into what he was today…

Was none other than the Mafia.

Kael owed him everything.

"Take Baku with you," Mafia continued. "Attack tonight."

The call ended.

Mafia leaned back against the bench and looked at the dark sky.

He knew something Kael did not.

Beru was Kael's brother.

And Beru would never fight Kael for the Misaki Clan.

That was why he chose Kael for this mission.

Everything… was calculated.

Inside the Misaki Clan estate, peace still lingered.

Lanterns glowed softly. Children's laughter echoed faintly. The clan members believed tonight would be like any other night.

They were wrong.

The main gate shattered.

Wood splintered.

Two figures stepped through the broken entrance.

Kael.

And Baku.

The air shifted instantly.

Killing intent filled the courtyard like poison.

Nobu's brother stepped forward first, eyes sharp.

"Everyone go to the safe room!" he ordered loudly.

The women and elders rushed inside. Nobu's mother grabbed the children and locked the heavy wooden door behind them.

Now only two stood in the courtyard.

Nobu's brother.

And their father.

Facing Kael and Baku.

Kael's cold gaze landed on Nobu's father.

"I've waited for this day," Kael said quietly. "The day I erase the Misaki Clan."

Nobu's brother frowned. "What are you talking about?"

Kael's eyes darkened.

"For what you did to me."

The courtyard fell silent.

Nobu's father stepped forward, his voice firm. "I did what was necessary for the clan."

Kael didn't reply.

He moved.

In an instant, steel flashed.

Kael lunged toward Nobu's father.

Their blades clashed, sparks flying.

Nobu's brother tried to intervene—

But Baku stepped in front of him.

With a brutal kick, Baku sent him flying across the courtyard.

He crashed against a pillar.

Nobu's brother wiped blood from his mouth and charged again.

He threw a punch straight at Baku's face.

Baku dodged barely— the fist grazing his cheek.

He was injured from previous battles, his breathing heavy.

Still, he grinned.

He grabbed Nobu's brother by the collar and slammed him into the ground.

Once.

Twice.

Again.

And again.

Each impact cracked the stone beneath them.

But Nobu's brother refused to stay down.

He forced himself up and delivered a full-powered punch.

The impact was monstrous.

Baku's face smashed into the ground, stone shattering under the force.

For a second… silence.

Nobu's brother stood there, panting.

"I… won…"

But a hand suddenly wrapped around his throat from behind.

Baku.

His eyes were wild.

With terrifying strength, Baku lifted him and threw him down again.

This time, he grabbed his leg.

And with his bare hands—

He tore through flesh.

A horrifying scream filled the courtyard.

Blood painted the ground.

Nobu's brother howled in agony as his leg was destroyed.

Across the courtyard, Nobu's father was locked in a fierce duel with Kael.

Both were bleeding.

Both exhausted.

Then—

He heard his son's scream.

He turned.

And saw his child on the ground, leg ruined, blood everywhere.

he shouted instinctively, even though it was not Nobu but his other son.

His focus broke.

Kael seized the opportunity.

He kicked Nobu's father across the face.

"You're fighting me," Kael said coldly.

He attacked again, blade slicing toward his chest.

But Nobu's father caught his leg mid-strike and tried to throw him—

Kael twisted mid-air and slashed downward.

The blade cut deep across Nobu's father's chest.

Blood sprayed.

Still—

He did not fall.

He didn't even look at the wound.

Instead, he roared and punched Kael with everything he had left.

The force sent Kael flying across the courtyard, crashing into a wall.

Kael slowly stood up, blood dripping from his lip.

For the first time—

His expression changed.

Inside the safe room, Nobu's mother trembled as she called Nobu's wife.

"They're attacking… the clan… Kael is here… Baku too…"

Her voice broke.

Nobu's wife froze.

She immediately turned to Nobu and told him everything.

But Nobu's face hardened.

"I won't go."

Silence.

His wife stared at him in disbelief.

"They feed them when you had gone," she said angrily. "Your brother treated our sons like his own."

Nobu clenched his fists.

He tried to calm her, but guilt was already crushing him.

"If you want me to go," he said quietly, "I will."

He grabbed his phone.

He called Beru.

"Brother… they're attacking."

Beru didn't hesitate.

He grabbed his car keys and rushed out the door.

His wife called after him, but he was already gone.

The engine roared as he sped toward the Misaki estate.

Back at the clan grounds—

Baku lifted his sword.

He was about to deliver the final blow to Nobu's brother.

But suddenly—

A figure crashed into him.

Nobu's father.

Even wounded, even bleeding, he forced Baku back.

Baku growled and drew his blade fully.

He lunged forward.

Nobu's father grabbed the sword with his bare hand.

Blood streamed down his palm as the blade cut into him.

"If you want to destroy the Misaki Clan," he said through gritted teeth, "kill me first."

Baku smiled cruelly.

At that exact moment—

Two cars stopped outside the shattered gate.

Nobu stepped out first.

Beru followed.

They walked through the broken entrance.

And froze.

The courtyard was a battlefield.

Blood everywhere.

Clan members lying motionless.

Nobu's brother screaming in pain.

His father bleeding heavily.

And standing in the center—

Kael.

And Baku.

But the shock wasn't because of the blood.

It was because they recognized them.

They were not strangers.

They were not unknown enemies.

They were the ones they once called family.

The ones who trained together.

Ate together.

Laughed together.

Kael's eyes slowly met Beru's.

For a second—

Everything stopped.

Brother.

Facing brother.

And in the distance, hidden in the shadows beyond the estate walls…

The Mafia watched.

A faint smile on his lips.

The night the Misaki Clan bled—

Was only the beginning.
