The click of the empty chamber was the only sound on the deck. "Levis!" Bright screamed, his voice raw with shock. But Levis didn't stop; he kept pulling the trigger, the metallic clack-clack-clack echoing over the waves as he tried to fire bullets that were no longer there.
Suddenly, the adrenaline vanished. Levis stumbled, his legs turning to lead. His body began to shiver violently, unable to support its own weight. He dropped the gun, the heavy metal clattering against the deck, and bolted. He didn't look at Bright, or the King, or even Robert. He ran blindly back toward the cabin, his hands frantically wiping at the tears that wouldn't stop falling.
