Luan had actually been ready to get angry, since he was suddenly asked to do something he didn't want to do. But the moment he heard Cyrus praise him, his irritation faded, and he even looked a little proud.
"Yeah," he said, trying to sound casual. "I guess I am an expert at that."

Roxanna hadn't realized before just how good Cyrus was at getting people to do things simply by praising them.
It sounded like a genuine compliment, but Roxanna had seen this many times in her old world. Her former boss used to do the exact same thing whenever he wanted an employee to do something difficult, or something outside their job description.
He would always say, "I'm giving you this responsibility because you're the best person for it."
And just like that, the grumpy employee would instantly turn into a happy one, even working on the task with full effort.
