Chapter 137 - WHEN THE ROOT WALKED OLYMPUS

Olympus had existed for ages believing it was high.

Higher than mortals.

Higher than worlds.

Higher than most ideas.

Then Kael Veyris walked its steps.

And Olympus realized height was… relative.

The clouds parted automatically not dramatically, just politely.

Columns adjusted their angles so they wouldn't feel crooked in his presence.

Even the wind slowed, as if unsure whether it was allowed to touch him.

Zeus noticed first.

He cleared his throat, lightning dimming slightly behind him.

Welcome Zeus said voice loud but respectful.

This is Olympus, seat of

I know, Kael replied calmly.

You're a canopy hub. Very energetic. Slightly inefficient.

Athena stiffened.

That sounded like criticism.

Kael tilted his head.

Observation.

Nyx floated behind him, already enjoying this. They didn't summon each other.

They simply… arrived.

Athena stood alert, calculating.

Ares crossed his arms, annoyed but cautious.

Hera watched silently, eyes sharp.

Apollo squinted at Kael like he was trying to read sheet music written by reality.

Hermes circled once, twice then wisely stopped.

Odin leaned against a pillar that hadn't existed a moment earlier but decided it should.

Shiva stood relaxed, amused, entirely unthreatened.

You feel like the Tree, Odin said.

Kael nodded.

I'm beneath it.

That sentence made several gods uncomfortable.

Athena finally spoke.

You are not an emanation.

No, Kael agreed.

Zeus frowned.

Then you are… above us.

Kael shook his head.

Below.

Silence.

Nyx clarified gently.

He exists at the Roots. You're branches. Leaves. Very impressive ones.

Apollo blinked.

So we're mythology.

Kael smiled faintly.

You're expressions. Stories with substance.

Hermes raised a hand.

Do we get royalties.

No.

Hermes nodded.

Fair.Ares scoffed.

So what happens if a god challenges you

Kael looked at him not threatening, not dismissive.

Just honest.

"Then the challenge wouldn't be permitted.

Ares paused.

…That's not an answer."

Kael shrugged.

It's the only one.

Ares felt something strange.

Not fear.

Ineligibility.

Like trying to punch gravity.

He sat back down without realizing when he decided to.Zeus snapped his fingers lightly.

A test. Nothing serious.

A spark of lightning formed

then hesitated.

Then… politely unraveled.

Zeus stared at his hand.

I didn't cancel that.

Kael sipped tea.

I didn't either.

The lightning simply decided it wasn't relevant.

Shiva laughed openly.

Oh, I like you.

They weren't wrong to feel powerful.

They were powerful.

But power inside a system always feels infinite

until you meet the thing the system rests on.

Kael walked through Olympus.

Gods followed, not as guards

as curious witnesses.

He passed murals of creation, war, love, destruction.

He stopped once.

This story he said pointing at a carving of divine conflict,

was unnecessary.

Athena tensed.

But it already happened.

Kael nodded.

And I allowed it.

That answer disturbed her more than judgment ever could.

At the edge of Olympus, Kael stopped.

I won't stay long, he said calmly.

You function better believing you're autonomous.

Zeus hesitated.

Will you return.

Kael considered it.

Maybe. Roots don't visit leaves often.

He stepped away.

Reality folded gently behind him.

When he was gone Olympus felt the same.

But the gods knew better.

They weren't rulers of existence.

They were beautiful expressions of it.

And somewhere far below.

The Roots were watching.
