Chapter 43: Enel — Dead
Night in Apayado was dead quiet.
Luo Lin leaned against a wall that looked sturdy enough, idly wasting time. Robin rested her head on his shoulder, eyes closed, dozing lightly.
The faint firelight danced across her face—she was breathtakingly beautiful.
Over the years, Luo Lin's original impure thoughts had long since turned into pure, overflowing love.
"What are you looking at?"
"You."
"You've been looking since I was little. Not tired yet?"
"Nope. Never will be. Not in a lifetime."
"Hmph. Go to sleep. I'm exhausted today."
"Mm."
Luo Lin pulled her closer and slowly closed his eyes too.
Compared to the warm, cozy vibe on their side, the altar was a chaotic party zone.
The Straw Hats were having another banquet. Gan Fall and Chopper had recovered and joined in. Even a pack of wolves that came to complain about the noise got converted by Luffy into friends.
As expected of him—he could befriend anything.
…
The next morning.
The day the "Ordeal of God" officially began.
Luo Lin woke up before dawn. Not because he wanted to—just because sleeping outdoors sucked. Leaning against a wall all night left every muscle stiff.
At that moment he missed his three-meter king bed with religious fervor.
Robin had been half-asleep and uncomfortable last night, so she'd crawled into his lap and slept curled in his arms like a cat.
"Fucking trash system!"
System: ???
"Host, what does sleeping badly in the wild have to do with me?"
"You don't even have a system space! If I could store a tent and blankets, would I have to camp like a hobo?! Still gonna say it's not your fault?!"
System: …That kinda makes sense. Wait, no!
"Even if I had one, non-system items probably can't be stored anyway!"
"Don't give me that bullshit! If you'd opened the mall earlier I could've bought a tent! Still your fault!"
"You haven't trained, so you have zero Cultivation Points…"
Luo Lin froze, then decided—this pot was definitely getting dumped on the system.
"Facts aside, are you completely blameless?! Cultivation Points don't grow on trees! Trash system still talks back!"
System: …
This host is unreasonable. Going dark.
After roasting the system, Luo Lin felt much better. He didn't move—he just kept holding Robin until she woke naturally.
"Morning, Robin-baby!"
"Mm… you held me like this the whole night?"
"Yep!"
"Idiot. Sitting all night must've been uncomfortable."
"Of course not. You know my body."
True—Luo Lin could hibernate in the arctic and be fine. One night was nothing. Just the posture made it hard to fall asleep deeply.
Robin's eyes curved into crescents. She rewarded him with a sweet kiss and climbed out of his lap.
"Breakfast is bananas and apples! We finished the meat yesterday."
"Whatever you say~"
He still had his huge bag of fruit—perfectly fine for breakfast.
They tidied up quickly and headed upward. Big plans today—and Enel was up there too.
Going down had been slow because Robin was recording everything. Going up? Piece of cake. Ten-plus minutes and they were back at the upper ruins.
Then to the base of the giant vine.
Luo Lin swallowed hard.
"Robin-baby… we really climbing this? I still vote chopping it down. Reconsider?"
"No chopping! These are priceless relics left by ancient people! We have to treasure them!"
She grabbed his cheeks and lectured seriously.
"Fine, fine! No chopping!"
He sighed dramatically and started climbing.
The massive vine twisted upward like a spiral staircase.
Robin led, Luo Lin two steps behind, Observation Haki cloaking their presence.
They climbed leisurely. A little over an hour later, they reached the level where Enel's shrine sat.
Meanwhile, the Straw Hats were just waking up. They noticed Luo Lin and Robin still hadn't returned, but quickly forgot about it—yesterday they'd realized this island was the other half of Jaya!
That meant the great liar Nolando wasn't a liar at all. Everything in his log was real—including the golden bell!
They decided to find the bell, ring it, and survive whatever weird "trial" was coming.
Quick role division, then everyone split up.
Luo Lin and Robin stepped onto the island cloud holding Enel's shrine.
A huge circular building appeared before them.
On the main gate facing them was one giant character: 神 (God)
Luo Lin: Chinese characters are awesome!
No divine soldiers guarded the outside—Enel was inside, using Mantra to watch the survival game he'd started, casually asking how many of the fifty contestants would still be alive in three hours.
The remaining three priests were already at the lowest level preparing the trials. Only two female and three male divine enforcers remained with him.
Luo Lin and Robin walked up and politely knocked.
"Hellooo? Anybody home?"
Enel, who had been grinning like a kid on Christmas, suddenly grimaced.
His Mantra… hadn't detected anyone approaching.
The enforcers were shocked too—who the hell came straight to the shrine at a time like this?
"Maybe one of the priests or the captain came back?"
"No way—the trial just started!"
"Shut up! You—go open the door. Let's see which little rat snuck up here."
The whispering annoyed Enel. He ordered one enforcer to open the gate.
He still sensed nothing outside—Luo Lin hadn't dropped his Haki cloak yet.
Enel's Mantra was strong, but compared to Luo Lin's? Not quite.
The enforcer reached the door.
BOOM!
The entire gate exploded inward, sending the poor guy flying.
The other four enforcers' eyes bulged, tongues lolling out like cartoon characters.
Someone actually attacked the shrine?!
No dust cloud—just two figures casually strolling in.
"I told you someone was home! Should've just kicked it open from the start!"
Robin nodded noncommittally. Luo Lin had already said the golden bell wasn't inside, so whatever—he could kick away.
Enforcers: The guy who was supposed to open the door just got yeeted by it!
"Two little rats from the Blue Sea. Actually dared sneak all the way here. I don't know how you hid from Mantra—"
Enel spoke calmly, face neutral.
"His pants are hideous."
"Agreed."
Luo Lin completely ignored him and roasted the baggy pants instead. Robin nodded solemnly—Enel's fashion was criminal.
"Yehahaha! Interesting!"
Enel laughed in rage. These two were suicidal—barging in and then critiquing his outfit?!
He wasn't in the mood for questions anymore. Just kill.
"50 million volts — Discharge!"
The instant he raised his hand, Luo Lin scooped Robin up and shave—gone.
"Dodged? Two rats already escaped my judgment earlier. So it was you. Mantra users too?"
He was genuinely shocked at the speed, but kept a calm façade.
"Rude! I let you live an extra day and you're not grateful—just attack right away?!"
Luo Lin set Robin down a short distance away, grumbling.
Where was the mandatory villain monologue?!
Enel laughed again, then turned icy.
"You want to kill me?"
"Yep. I like your stuff."
If yesterday hadn't been so busy and he hadn't prioritized Robin's ruins, he would've screamed "Enel you dumbass!" and waited for the guy to teleport straight into his fist.
"Yehahahaha! The nerve! Do you even know what I am?!"
"Of course. Logia user. Honestly? You don't deserve the title 'God'."
Enel froze, teeth grinding.
"Little Blue Sea rat knows quite a bit. Then—are you ready to receive my personal judgment?"
"Oh? Confident, are we?"
"Of course! I am the thunder itself that people worship as god! Even if I stand still you cannot touch me!"
"Dumbass. Robin-baby, hold these."
He handed Robin the fruit bag, didn't even draw his sword, and shave—right next to Enel.
Enel was shocked by the speed again but still sneered.
"Fine. Let mortals understand what I truly am, then despair. That's a god's duty. Yeha—"
BOOM!
Before he could finish laughing, Luo Lin's Armament-coated fist smashed straight into his face.
Enel rocketed sideways, crashing through the shrine wall. Almost gave him a concussion.
"See? Told you there's always some Logia idiot who thinks they're invincible."
Luo Lin didn't chase. He turned back to Robin and resumed roasting.
"Mm. Normal. Most people in the first half of the Grand Line have never even heard of Haki."
Robin watched calmly and offered analysis.
The four remaining enforcers gaped, tongues out again, then bolted—God just got punched, they weren't sticking around to die!
Luo Lin hadn't held back much. Enel took ages to sit up in the rubble, blood pouring from nose and mouth, several teeth missing.
"No… impossible! How can anyone touch lightning?! Some weird ability?!"
He wiped the blood, eyes ice-cold.
"I'll admit—you pissed me off, damn Blue Sea pest! Since you can hit me, I just won't let you land another blow. Hope you keep attacking!"
"Oh? Be my guest."
Enel took a ragged breath, stood, and tapped the four thunder drums on his back in sequence.
Lightning exploded around him—he was going all out.
"200 million volts — Thunder God!"
Enel turned pure white, body swelling several sizes (like a fully-fed Luffy), hair exploding into an afro, lightning crackling everywhere.
"Luo Lin, careful!"
Even Robin felt the air buzzing with electricity—her skin tingled.
"Got it. Relax."
Luo Lin answered, slowly drawing Mitama and coating it black with Armament.
He had to admit—Thunder God Enel was strong.
Just… a tiny bit weaker than him.
Enel saw the sword and inwardly relaxed. Metal conducts electricity—perfect.
"Yehahaha! Using a sword? Metal conducts electricity!"
He charged straight at Luo Lin.
"Thunder Dragon!"
"One-Sword Style — Rending Slash!"
KABOOM!!
The attacks collided mid-air, blasting the clouds apart.
Enel made the exact same circuit-fried face he makes against Luffy—he never imagined anything could cut his thunder dragon in half!
"Like I said—losing focus in battle is a bad habit."
While Enel was still stunned, Luo Lin's voice came from behind.
He whipped around—Luo Lin's blade was already raised high.
Mitama wasn't just black anymore—Conqueror's Haki coiled around it, crackling black-red lightning.
"Wait—!!"
SLASH!
From right shoulder to left hip—one diagonal cut that nearly bisected him.
Organs were vaguely visible through the wound.
As he flew backward, Thunder God form collapsed. He hit the ground hard in normal form, coughing blood nonstop.
"Impossible… How can anyone be stronger than a god?! I haven't even reached the Fairy Vearth yet…!"
Luo Lin flexed his tingling hand. Damn, even with Conqueror's coating he still got a little shocked!
(At the summit war, Aokiji froze Whitebeard through his blade but Whitebeard was fine. Getting lightly zapped here is reasonable, right?)
"You're just ignorant. A Logia user who doesn't even know Haki dares call himself god?"
He switched Mitama to his other hand and walked over.
A sword wound like that wasn't the kind you defibrillate your way out of.
Enel, refusing to accept it, lifted his head and glared with pure hatred.
"I… am… a GOD! How… could I lose… to a mortal like you…! God's… Judg—"
His right hand rose, trying one last desperate lightning strike.
Before he could charge it—
SHNK!
Head gone.
Only his unwilling eyes remained, staring blankly ahead, then quickly losing focus.
Luo Lin slowly sheathed Mitama.
Enel — Dead.
