"Are you a Vampire hunter, like Blade?" The Vampire girl wasn't stupid; Zhou Yi's behavior along the way had already made her suspicious.
"Not just that!" Zhou Yi nodded, then shook his head. He didn't want to lie to this poor girl.
"I knew it!" The girl smiled, revealing an unusually determined look. "Kill me."
The girl tilted her head back and closed her eyes. Although her body was trembling slightly, she still held onto Zhou Yi tightly.
Why would she think of that? Zhou Yi found it hard to understand the girl's heart. However, he felt even more pity for her.
He ruffled her hair and whispered in her ear, "No, my good girl!"
The girl silently buried her head in Zhou Yi's chest. After a moment, Zhou Yi felt the dampness on his chest. Novels in the secular world all say that Vampires don't have tears because their blood is cold. But at this moment, Zhou Yi felt the Vampire's tears. He reached out a finger and gently wiped away the girl's tears. In his heart, he began to quietly make plans for the girl.
At this moment, some slight sounds came from behind the wall of the compartment. In these old-fashioned apartments, there was always a considerable space between the walls. Some could even hide some unspeakable things. During the Prohibition era in New York in the last century, some people secretly hid alcohol in the walls. But now, there were definitely more rats here.
The one hiding behind the wall at this moment wouldn't be a rat, but something much bigger. A Variant had found its way here.
Through his super vision, Zhou Yi could already see the creature behind the wall, along with the Vampire Guard and their skirmish. To be honest, aside from the Yeti's performance, the others weren't much to write home about. It could be said that if it weren't for the Vampires' inherent strength advantage, they might not even be a match for human special forces soldiers. Were these really the ultimate defense of the Vampire Empire? Zhou Yi was skeptical. A cunning individual like Machinos wouldn't settle for just this.
A punch landed on the wall, and the power of light penetrated, shining on the Variants behind it. The Variant, which had performed exceptionally well in front of the Vampire Guard, and whose vitality was incredibly tenacious, still couldn't escape the Vampire's grasp, and was reduced to ashes in an instant.
Zhou Yi slightly curled the corner of his mouth; these creatures couldn't face the sun, so no matter how many came, it didn't matter. His gaze then began to wander, searching for Chadnorma, the Vampire, the so-called Variant carrier, who hadn't appeared yet. Zhou Yi always felt that he was the key, not to solving the Variants, but to understanding the grand duke's conspiracy.
Soon, he found Chadnorma, and he was with Nisha. He had subdued Nisha, but hadn't harmed her, instead whispering something in her ear.
Zhou Yi's gaze swept over Chadnorma, wanting to find something unusual or suspicious.
It wasn't long before Zhou Yi found what he was looking for. It was a ring with a crest. This kind of thing was generally only possessed by European nobles, a symbol of identity and authority. Zhou Yi had seen an identical one, on Nisha's hand.
A pair of identical rings appearing on two seemingly unrelated people would naturally become a point of suspicion in Zhou Yi's eyes. Already suspicious of everything, Zhou Yi felt more and more that he was getting closer to the truth of the matter.
However, he still needed to find the person involved to ask about the details.
Gently pushing the girl in his arms away, Zhou Yi kissed her forehead and said, "Stay here, my good girl. I'll be right back."
The Vampire girl wiped away the tears on her face and suddenly raised her head, saying seriously, "My name is Serana, and I'll always wait for you, whether you come back or not."
"I will come back." Zhou Yi promised again, the girl's words making him feel a little heavy. He was both fortunate and worried to have discovered such a treasure during a small game. How could he protect this girl? Unlike Sharice, Sharice's Variant identity would only attract the hostility of humans, and humans were the easiest group to deal with.
What couldn't be conquered in terms of ideology could be completely destroyed physically.
But the biggest enemy Serana had to face was the sun, an opponent that couldn't be conquered. Zhou Yi, who was almost the embodiment of the sun, naturally understood the sun's magnificence and greatness; this problem was destined to be unsolvable.
Taking two steps back, Zhou Yi looked at the Vampire girl who was still watching him and smiled, activating a watch on his wrist.
Black mercury began to surge, and it had taken shape in an instant. When the equally black cloak was shaken out, Zhou Yi had transformed into a superhero—the Dawn Knight—in front of Serana. This was a different kind of comfort, revealing his most secret identity to reassure the girl.
Watching Zhou Yi's magnificent transformation, Serana was surprised but also felt reassured. It was clear that Zhou Yi's approach was indeed effective.
Since this was Vampire territory, Zhou Yi didn't bother with any sense of preserving the surroundings. He sidestepped Serana slightly to prevent her from being accidentally harmed. Then, he charged out with the utmost violence.
Whether it was walls, beams, or hallways, whether they were made of wood, concrete, or steel, anything that stood in his way was destroyed by the Dawn Knight. His only target was Chadnorma, the one who called himself the carrier.
Chadnorma was currently holding Nisha hostage from behind. He looked at Nisha with a strange expression—warmth, jealousy, and hatred. These complex emotions flickered across his face. If he were an actor, there would be no doubt; he would be a powerhouse.
Unfortunately, he wasn't. As a real-life individual, such an expression only meant that there was a compelling story behind him, one that didn't need to be fabricated.
Chadnorma pinched Nisha's cheek, his murky gray pupils staring at the woman in his grasp. After a silence of about two or three breaths, he spoke in an unusually hoarse voice.
"I know you. Machinos's most beloved daughter. I really want to try... if I kill you, will he shed a single tear for you?"
"Monster, I will not yield to you!" Nisha glared at Chadnorma with fury. If she had Zhou Yi's abilities, Chadnorma would likely be nothing more than ashes by now.
"Monster?" Chadnorma laughed miserably, his jaw splitting as he did so. He pointed at his grotesque mouth, addressing the woman before him. "I feel like a monster too, but do you think I wanted this? To endure this torment constantly?"
His words grew increasingly resentful, his anger finding no outlet, so he slammed a fist against the wall. The concrete wall offered no resistance; Chadnorma's arm went straight through. Judging by the surroundings, only fragments of concrete remained.
This display of power made Nisha gasp. In terms of strength alone, Chadnorma had surpassed the Vampires, even surpassing other Variants.
Looking at the damage he'd caused, Chadnorma chuckled. But his laughter was tinged with sorrow.
"This is what he wants, you know? We share the same blood. Maybe I should turn you into one of us."
Hearing this, Nisha immediately began to struggle. Just looking at Chadnorma made Nisha shudder. If she were really transformed into that hideous form, it would be better to die for a woman who loved beauty.
A woman's obsession with preserving her appearance was no match for the King of Variants' monstrous strength. Chadnorma had already opened his maw, about to bite into Nisha's neck.
His movements were swift; the transformation could be completed in less than a second. Unfortunately, among those who wanted to interfere, there happened to be someone who could arrive and save the day in less than a second.
The wall collapsed inward, a black shadow appearing beside them amidst the flying debris. Only then could Chadnorma and Nisha see who had arrived.
Black armor and a cape. This attire filled Chadnorma with both fear and shock. He roared, "Dawn Knight!" before a punch sent him flying.
Zhou Yi's fist connected directly with Chadnorma's face, instantly sending him hurtling away. Although Zhou Yi hadn't used much force, it was still beyond Chadnorma's limits. Even though Chadnorma's strength had surpassed the limits of a Vampire, reaching a new level.
But, to put it bluntly, what were Vampires in this world? This world was filled with unimaginable abilities, bizarre Variants. There were the Asgardians, who had left their myths on this planet, and even aliens, along with various overpowered superheroes.
Compared to these guys, the Vampire race was utterly insignificant. They might not even be on par with humans. Humans had a massive population, various individuals with black technology, and the existence of superheroes like Zhou Yi. Vampires, aside from slightly superior basic physical attributes, were practically useless.
Chadnorma's neck was twisted at an extreme angle, and his body, like a cannonball, smashed through several layers of walls. Zhou Yi could clearly see multiple broken bones and severe internal injuries. He even worried that he might have killed him with that single blow.
Zhou Yi's concern wasn't about the fear of accidentally killing someone. It was the fear of losing a lead. He desperately wanted to know the truth behind the events, and Chadnorma was the only lead he had found.
As it turned out, his worry was somewhat unnecessary. Because Chadnorma was already staggering to his feet from among the rubble.
He first straightened his neck, and with a series of sparse cracking sounds, he had twisted his neck back to normal. Then he started to shake his body irregularly. It looked a bit like an epileptic patient.
But in Zhou Yi's eyes, he could see the broken bones in his body rapidly closing, repairing what could be repaired, and for what couldn't, it was as if an extra layer of armor had been added, automatically attaching to the corrected bones to provide extra protection. And those so-called internal organ ruptures didn't seem to be a problem at all. After a few breaths, they seemed to disappear completely.
Such trauma, to be restored in such a short time. Even among the Variants with their numerous abilities, it was almost unheard of. Except for a pair of immortal brothers who had been wandering on various battlefields for nearly two hundred years, almost no one could reach this level.
This level had exceeded the biological system, and it really seemed to have reached the existence of so-called cancer cells. Infinite proliferation, infinite repair. If it weren't for the fear of sunlight, even Zhou Yi would be very curious about how to exterminate these Variants.
