Chapter 48 - CHAPTER 48 — Two Children of the Same Sin

The moment Eleven's finger touched Arjun's chest—

The world shattered.

Not exploded.Not collapsed.

Folded inward.

Sound vanished.Color drained.Weight disappeared.

Meera screamed Arjun's name—

—but he didn't hear it.

THE MENTAL REALM

Arjun stood alone.

No ground.No sky.

Only a vast white plane stretching infinitely, like an unfinished page.

He looked down at himself.

Same body.Same scars.

But his Burst was gone.

No grey.No silver.

Just him.

"…So this is where you pull people," Arjun muttered.

A figure appeared ahead.

Walking calmly.

Barefoot.

Hands behind his back.

Prototype Eleven.

Except—

He looked human here.

No cracks.No silver veins.No damage.

Just a boy who looked like Arjun… but empty.

"You finally arrived," Eleven said calmly.

Arjun clenched his fists.

"Get out of my head."

Eleven tilted his head slightly.

"This is not your head," he replied."This is the Shared Origin Plane."

Arjun frowned.

"…Shared?"

Eleven nodded.

"We were born from the same source."

The words hit harder than any punch.

Eleven raised a hand.

The white plane shifted—

A laboratory appeared.

Older than Arjun's memories.Older than Eleven.

A Root Core Fragment, floating inside a containment field.

Human scientists surrounding it.

One man standing closest.

Professor Vale.

"You see," Eleven said calmly,"Your father didn't create us."

The image froze.

"He discovered something buried beneath the world."

The Root Fragment pulsed.

"A proto-conscious system.A planetary failsafe."

Eleven turned to Arjun.

"You and I were attempts to interface with it."

Arjun's breath hitched.

"So I wasn't created to beat you," he said slowly.

Eleven shook his head.

"You were created to erase instability."

The scene changed.

Eleven in a pod.Screaming silently as silver light overtook him.

"You were born after my failure," Eleven continued."Designed with emotional anchors.Human bonds.Free will."

Arjun clenched his jaw.

"…So I'm a correction."

"Yes," Eleven replied."And an execution."

Silence stretched.

Arjun whispered:

"I didn't ask for that."

Eleven's eyes flickered.

"I know."

Back in reality—

Eleven's body stood motionless, one hand pressed to Arjun's chest.

Arjun's eyes were blank.

Gone.

Meera didn't hesitate.

She screamed and punched Eleven.

Her fist connected with his jaw—

CRACK.

Her knuckles split instantly.

She screamed in pain—

but punched him again.

"LET—HIM—GO!!"

Eleven's head snapped sideways.

He turned to her slowly.

"…You cannot hurt me."

Meera's eyes burned with tears and fury.

"I DON'T CARE."

She grabbed a fallen metal rod and swung it with everything she had.

It bent against Eleven's shoulder.

Did nothing.

Samar staggered forward, eyes blazing.

"HEY—METAL-FACE—LOOK AT ME—!!"

His Filtering ability flared violently—

Not a prediction.

Not reduction.

Isolation.

He saw only one thing now—

The real control signal binding Eleven to the Root.

Rudra shouted:

"SAMAR—YOU'RE SEEING IT TOO—THE CONTROL THREAD—!"

Samar grinned through blood.

"Yup.And it's ugly."

Samar slammed his palm onto the glowing root-vein connecting Eleven to the network.

Red lines exploded across his arm.

He screamed.

But didn't let go.

"FILTER—CUT—NOISE—!!"

The connection flickered.

Eleven's body twitched.

Meera gasped.

"You did something!"

Samar laughed weakly.

"Yeah…I think I pissed off a god."

The tunnel screamed.

The Root Network reacted violently.

Walls closed in.

Veins snapped outward.

Rudra dragged Meera back.

"THE ROOT IS TRYING TO ASSIMILATE US—MOVE—!!"

Back in the mental realm—

Arjun stared at Eleven.

"So what now?" Arjun asked quietly."You erase me?"

Eleven shook his head.

"No."

The white pane cracked.

Another figure stepped out.

Arjun stopped breathing.

It was him.

But colder.Eyes hollow.Expressionless emotion.

A version of Arjun without Meera.Without Samar.Without choice.

Eleven spoke softly:

"This is what you become…if you complete your function."

The mirror—Arjun looked at him.

"You were made to delete," it said flatly."Do it."

Arjun's hands shook.

Eleven stepped closer.

"You hesitate.That is your flaw."

Arjun looked at the mirror version—

Then remembered Meera's voice.Samar's stubborn grin.Rudra's fear and hope.

He clenched his fists.

"No."

The mirror frowned.

Eleven's eyes widened slightly.

Arjun continued, voice shaking but firm:

"I won't erase you.And I won't erase myself."

The white plane trembled.

Eleven whispered:

"…Then you choose instability."

Arjun stepped forward.

"I choose people."

The mirror shattered like glass.

Light exploded.

Reality crashed back.

Arjun gasped violently, collapsing to his knees.

Meera caught him sobbing.

"ARJUN—ARJUN—YOU'RE BACK—!!"

Eleven staggered backward.

Silver veins flickered erratically.

His voice glitched—

"…error…choice…not predicted…"

Rudra stared in awe.

"He rejected the protocol…without activating Phase Two…"

The Root howled.

A sound like the planet itself screaming.

The tunnel collapsed further.

Eleven looked at Arjun—

Not with hatred.

But with something close to confusion.

His final words were quiet:

"…We were born from the same source…but you were made…to destroy me…"

Arjun met his gaze.

"…Or to save you."

The Root screamed louder.

The ground split open.

And far below—

The Root Core Chamber began to awaken.
