Chapter 10 - Roommate Dai Huabin

"Oh, I see." Shi Yu walked in. Seeing that the room hadn't been cleaned yet, he wanted to help out.

"I'll do it. You'll be my young master's classmate from now on, and his roommate, so how can I let you do these things?" The man smiled and declined.

"You're making me feel awkward. This is a two-person dormitory, and I have an obligation to clean a part of it. I don't want to trouble you all entirely," Shi Yu said with a smile, taking the broom and sweeping.

Seeing Shi Yu like this, the man didn't insist too much. He wanted to do something else, but found there was nothing else to do, so he could only stand there idly.

"By the way, classmate, why didn't I see you bring any clothes?" the man asked casually.

"I didn't buy many clothes, just the one I'm wearing," Shi Yu replied casually.

The clothes he was wearing were bought after he arrived in this World, and he only bought this one outfit, plus a pair of shoes.

All his other money was used for food and lodging during this period. Now he only had ten copper coins left, which was not much different from having only ten dollars on him.

If Song Lingzhen hadn't been providing him with food and lodging these past few days, it would have been difficult for him to fill his stomach.

"Oh, I see," the man understood, and a hint of disdain flashed in his eyes. It seemed Shi Yu was from a poor family with no background.

Shi Yu didn't pay too much attention to him. Anyway, they were probably just passing through each other's lives, so there was no need to care too much about what the other person thought.

"By the way, what's your young master's name?" Shi Yu asked.

"Dai Huabin." Shi Yu looked at the man in surprise.

"You know our young master?" the man asked curiously.

"No, I don't," Shi Yu shook his head, thinking to himself that his luck was quite strange, to actually be in the same dormitory as Dai Huabin.

He knew a little about Dai Huabin: pampered, arrogant, and with a certain young master's air.

Being his roommate didn't feel like a comfortable thing to do; conflicts were inevitable.

But there was nothing he could do. He had no background; how could he change dorms as he pleased?

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Shi Yu could only comfort himself in this way.

"Our young master is the son of the Duke White Tiger of the Star Luo Empire. It's inevitable that he will be promoted and gain titles in the future, becoming one of the most important figures in the Star Luo Empire."

The man spoke somewhat proudly, as if following such a master was a very glorious thing.

"Impressive," Shi Yu responded casually. He just listened to whatever the other party wanted to boast about Dai Huabin, and there was no need to refute anything; he wasn't a contrarian.

"In the future, you can try to gain more favor with the young master. When he's happy, he might give you considerable benefits," the man suggested.

He wanted to develop Shi Yu into a subordinate follower for his young master, which might be useful in Shrek Academy later on.

Shi Yu showed a polite but awkward smile, offering no response.

He still had some backbone as a person. He didn't envy the powerful, didn't hate the rich, and wouldn't lower himself to curry favor with them.

If he didn't have wealth and luxury, it wasn't like he couldn't live. How could he bow and scrape to the powerful?

"Don't be so unappreciative. In Shrek Academy, if you follow our young master, you'll definitely live a life of luxury and endless glory. You'll have as many new clothes as you want, all made of the finest silk. Look at what I'm wearing; it cost ten gold coins, which is probably dozens of times the value of your clothes," the man said, getting more and more excited.

Shi Yu was getting a bit annoyed. After quickly sweeping the floor clean, he lay down on his own bed.

"I've been tired from traveling these past few days and want to sleep. Make yourselves at home," Shi Yu simply said, then closed his eyes to sleep, ignoring them.

"Doesn't know what's good for him," another person muttered softly.

Shi Yu heard it but pretended not to, falling asleep on his own. Since he had transmigrated Ten Thousand Years Ago, he hadn't rested well for seven days. Now, lying down, he naturally fell asleep, not even bothering to think about the problems in his mind.

Not long after he fell asleep, a tall young man dressed in luxurious clothes walked in.

"Young Master," the two immediately went over and greeted him respectfully.

Dai Huabin nodded casually and looked at Shi Yu, who was lying asleep on the other side.

"This is your roommate. I just asked; his name is Shi Yu, and he seems to have no background, quite poor," one of them told Dai Huabin.

"Understood. You two can leave first. Find a place to stay near the Academy. I'll contact you if I need anything," Dai Huabin instructed.

"Yes," the two left together.

Dai Huabin sat on his bunk. The two beds faced each other, with about two meters between them.

He took off his shoes and got into bed, then began to cultivate on his own. A white-gold light appeared on his body, and there was also a faint White Tiger Spirit illusion behind him.

It was just faint; the Spirit illusion would only roughly appear during cultivation.

Shi Yu slept until dusk. When he woke up, he felt refreshed and comfortably stretched.

Seeing someone cultivating opposite him, he automatically identified him as Dai Huabin.

He carefully observed Dai Huabin, feeling a sense of a novel coming to life.

Dai Huabin's physical appearance was quite good; he was handsome, with a hint of dominance in his masculinity, possibly influenced by his White Tiger Spirit.

He was tall and robust, clearly capable of fighting.

Dai Huabin withdrew from his cultivation state and opened his eyes, just in time to see Shi Yu looking at him from the opposite bed.

"Hello," Shi Yu greeted him with a smile.

The two unpleasant servants didn't affect his impression of Dai Huabin.

After all, they hadn't even spoken a word yet. It would be a bit prejudiced to label Dai Huabin as a difficult young master just because of his servants.

Dai Huabin merely nodded slightly, appearing very aloof. He checked the time, got out of bed, put on his shoes, and planned to go out for dinner.

He really was a bit difficult to get along with… Shi Yu had no intention of being overly friendly either, and had no thoughts of further communication.

He rubbed his hungry stomach, got out of bed, put on his shoes, and prepared to go find something to eat.

The two left the room one after another, with no intention of going together.

Dai Huabin left first, stopping in the hallway to wait for someone.

Shi Yu, however, walked straight out of the dormitory. As soon as he reached the entrance of the park, he subconsciously looked towards Mu En's spot; the old man was still lying there.

"Old man, aren't you going off duty to eat at this late hour?" Shi Yu naturally spoke to Mu En.

Mu En responded like a normal old man: "Not hungry yet."

"You can resist hunger better than us young people," Shi Yu said with a smile, giving Mu En a thumbs up.

He didn't say anything else, walked out of the park, and followed the signs towards the cafeteria.

Mu En watched Shi Yu's back for a couple more seconds, then continued to lie there leisurely.

"I need to find a part-time job, otherwise I won't even be able to afford food," Shi Yu, sitting in the cafeteria eating steamed buns, seriously considered this problem.

His dinner consisted of two steamed buns and a bowl of porridge, costing him three copper coins. This was the cheapest dinner combination.

He had seven copper coins left out of ten. He could still afford breakfast tomorrow, but lunch would definitely be more expensive, so whether he could afford it was a question mark.

The free lodging here was real, but food was not included. The Elder Song who brought him here only promised to cover food during the journey.

As for living expenses after enrollment, he had to solve them himself.

"I can't let a meal stump me, can I?" Shi Yu had a headache. After finishing his meal, he inquired in the cafeteria to see if there were any part-time jobs available.

This way, he should get free meals and some wages, killing two birds with one stone.

Currently, he had no other way to earn money, so he could only find a job with no entry requirements first.

"You'll need to come here immediately after classes end at noon and in the afternoon to help serve food, and afterwards, you'll need to wash dishes. Lunch and dinner are provided, and the monthly salary is ten silver coins," the Killing Ground Manager told Shi Yu.

"Okay," Shi Yu nodded in agreement, feeling that the salary was quite high.

Ten silver coins were equivalent to one thousand copper coins, which could be seen as a thousand dollars.
