Camilla's POV
"I understand she deserves better, but given our circumstances, this is what we have to do." Eden's words carried that familiar tone of quiet resolve, the one she used when her mind was already set.
I found myself shaking my head, instinctively stepping backward as though distance could somehow shield me from the harsh reality of her suggestion. "No," I breathed, the word barely audible before my voice found its strength. "Joy stays here."
Confusion clouded Eden's features, concern etching lines around her eyes. "Camilla, how?" The question hung between us, loaded with more than just practical concerns. It was about the impossible situation we faced.
The terrible truth was that I had no answer. No miracle solution hidden away, just this hollow ache consuming my chest and the crushing weight of my daughter's absence stealing my breath. My hand flew to my face, fingers pressing hard against my skin as if I could physically hold back the tears threatening to spill.
