Elisabeth's POV
The words I had been dreading hung in the air between us.
"She lost the baby."
I had prepared myself for this crushing reality, the inevitable conclusion that had haunted my thoughts since returning. But Alana's next words caught me completely off guard, though I wasn't certain they brought any comfort.
"There were serious complications that night, but the baby made it through." Alana's voice wavered, uncertainty clouding her features despite the relief in her tone. "Rosalyn's recovery was unusual, even by werewolf standards. She healed remarkably fast. However..." She paused, her gaze shifting away as if searching for the right explanation. "The doctors say it might not be over. I don't pretend to understand all the medical jargon, but the fall had consequences. The impact affected the baby in ways they're still monitoring."
