Why did fate seem determined to torment me?
The question burned in my mind as I sat in the sterile office, my legs bouncing with nervous energy. History was repeating itself in the cruelest way possible. Once again, Jefferson had vanished from my life. This time, it wasn't a car accident that stole him away. This time, the universe had decided a plane crash would be more fitting.
Gordon paced across the room like a caged wolf, his phone pressed to his ear as he barked orders at whoever was unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end. His usually composed demeanor had cracked, revealing a worry he couldn't quite hide. In the corner, Cathrine sat rigid as a statue, her icy stare boring into me as if I were personally responsible for every tragedy that had ever befallen their family.
At least Candace wasn't here to make this nightmare complete.
