Moving the wedding date without consulting Elisabeth first was guaranteed to spark her anger. I anticipated her reaction completely, even welcomed it. The knowledge that she would be furious about my unilateral decision meant nothing compared to the driving force behind my actions. One singular thought consumed every corner of my mind - she needed my protection.
Resources had been deployed, connections leveraged, and additional staff brought in to assist the event coordinator Elisabeth had selected. Tomorrow's ceremony would proceed flawlessly regardless of the obstacles. Nadia was managing the arrangements, and I viewed this as her ultimate evaluation. Could she maintain her role when summoned on a weekend to handle this crisis? She needed to demonstrate her worth.
